Best Trout Lure
      #190066 - 06/05/05 09:30 AM

If you could only own one fishing lure for Trout which one would it be? I would chose the Mepps (silver) #2 aglia spinner with the red plastic tube on the treble hook. What would you use?

I would say the Mepps but you already took that so I'll have to say a half/half dick nite.

I'd have to go with a black wooley bugger with a gold bead head.

For trolling - wedding ring behind pop-gear or a flatlined Rapala

For casting - Size 0 Mepps

For plunking - Worm and a marshmallow

If I really want to catch fish - whatever fly I tied to match the hatch...

I was wondering when someone would say frog flatfish, my Dad used to fish the little one on his flyrod with a splitshot and he always did real good with it.

Mmmmmm.... My go to lure for trout would be a black w/yellow spots Panther Martin. Don't know how many trout I have pulled in on one of those.

Lakes: This is my least favorite so I haven't put a whole lot of effort into it, but dark Panther Martin's, preferably all black, or w/ some yellow. Do enjoy plunking with worms/mellows/etc. Not as easy to drink beer and cast spinners.

Rivers/Creeks: Bought a fly rod last year, but I probably look like I'm having a seizure when I'm casting, so I'm not including any of that. Worms would be the bait. Couple splitshot 'bout a foot and half above the hook, chunk of worm, and drift that baby. I have never been skunked on a creek doing this, ever. Problem is you can't hardly fish any more water like that cause they want fly only. Which I understand. I've started pinching my barbs lately just cuz they tend to swallow that worm pretty hard.
