I think a person either gets lucky on the boise river or has it dialed in, I have neither. But I know there is some big fish in there.

boredboiseboy dont give up on that river it is very underrated and might i add underfished (thankfully). I am relatively new to fishing for trout but i have spent many many hours within the last 4 years on that river and have seen huge fish and great wierd things. Maybe it depends on your tackle. I usually fly fish and spin fish, and around winter time i get skunked spin fishing so I fly fish or bounce bait and that seems to work great. I dont know what your preference is but i do know that persistance has led me from being a frustrated angler to catching lots of fish and landing an occasional monster.

well the monsters are usually brown trout around 7-13lbs that i have seen. My best Brown is 8lbs 27" and best Rainbow is 6.5lbs 23" Keep in mind that the ratio of normal sized (10" -16") is alot higher than hooking into a big one (18"-26"). Although, recently an article put out in the Statesman talked about "Lunkers" in the Boise river. The IDFG did an analysis of the fish and confirmed that most of the trout people were catching were considered wild. And a large number of accounts were made by people seeing large trout and having their line snap while hooking into a trout. It is said that fish from the South Fork and Middle Fork make their way down to the River in town. But, that is not to say you won't catch stocked trout.

newbee, are you going to join us this Saturday at the Boise Ralley? Myself and others would be interested in hearing more anout your successes on the Boise River. Or, just show up and find out more about the "perch bellie" craze from experts like MOJO, ibgrizz, and Southfork.

I think the Boise River is going down the tube. Fishing on the river hasn't been as good as it was in the past and it seems like there's more people on the river poaching and killing everything they catch.

I think since it's in the middle of a major metropolitan area, and has long been managed as a put and take fishery, that the general public thinks they gotta kill all the fish they catch. It's tough breaking that mindset.

Yea every time I see someone catch a nice rainbow or a brown it goes right on the stringer and I try and tell them that those are the spawners but they don't care. I have also seen a certain people come down catch 6 trout and leave and then they come back later and get 6 more and leave and then they come back again and get 6 more. This really gets my blood boiling and I have reported this to F&G numerous times and they never come down and check things out.

Yep, I wouldn't waste any time at all on the Boise River, especially in the winter. Complete waste of time.

So don't nobody even bother goin' down there, cause there isn't any fish to be caught, especially not any big brown trout!
