For those who don't know what a Skamania strain steelhead is- since they don't mention in the above article, it's a strain originally produced by cross-breeding Washougal and Wind River natives that ended up being a very hardy hatchery stock and is the strain that produced summer run fish for many Washington and Oregon (and Great Lakes, apparently) rivers that either had near extinct runs or never had summer run fish.

They have been stocked in Lake Michigan by Wisconsin, Indiana, and Michigan since the early 1980s. Thats when I started fishing them. Our rivers are too warm for them to enter right now due to this extremely hot summer we are having out here.

Those are some nices steelies. As a kid growing up across the pond in Milwaukee, I spent many hours fishing from lakefront piers. Unfortunately we didn't have steelies and salmon in the "good old days"....was pretty much a perch show, which provided great eats. Thanks for sharing the pics.

There is times that you hook them in 200' of water on flat lines. They jump big time and spit the hook 5 of 6 hook ups. Nice pict's. WFFF
