Hey everybody, I'm kind of new to the sport of spearfishin' I have been kind of surprised at the lack of information available on the subject in the state of Washington. I believe I have muddled through the regs enough to know what I can and can't do but I now am looking for general hints, tips, etc. I am planning a trip to Westport this weekend and I've heard that the diving/fishing can be pretty good. Unfortunately, I have found no help on the internet as to where to go. All the websites tout great diving...Where? I would appreciate any insight as to quality/safe dive sights in the area. I would also be thankful for any experience you might be able to share with a newbie i.e. hunter friendly dive shops, local books on the subject, etc.

Try the finger jetties around the seawall at Westport. Or the base of the south jetty....do not try the ocean side please...I've seen divers on that side but it wasn't pleasant to watch when the ocean rollers started pounding .

Cool, thanks for the tip. My dive buddy has to work through the weekend so it has turned into a scouting trip, I'll be sure to check out the jetties and ask lots of questions around town.

New to the board too. There are a ton of great spots for spear fishing, especially near the coast. If you are new to the sport, the reefs off of seal rock (by Neah Bay) are very good for the beginner. There are plenty of fish and it isn't too deep. You do have to watch the current though. My favorite spots are around the bend past Tatoosh. I just wish I had a boat to take me there. I am a boat whore who hitches a ride any time I can.
