Most of the hummingbirds we see here are Black Chinned. The major exception is this time of year when the Rufous start migrating through. Right now we have a group of Rufous Hummers that have taken up residence in our neiborhood, and each one has a feeder they are guarding. The little buggers chase off any other bird that swings by. Yesterday I even saw one female chse a Goldfinch that was headed for the sunflowers. These little critters are definitely the fighter-jets of the birld world. I'll try to get some photos. Most of the pictures I took already are really bad, but it's hard to get anything more than tailfeather shot when they are chasing each other around...

Saw a Broad Tailed last week at the feeder out front, and a Calliope on Monday night at the feeder in the back yard. I'm guessing the mountain dwellers are started for California and Arizona. We will have Black Chinned around till the second week fo September (usually...).
