I'm a student at U of I and I'm wondering what rockhounding areas are near Moscow preferably hiking or biking distance and what laws do I need to know about?

There are some old muscovite mines near Deary that have schorl (Black tourmaline). Ownership changes but you may want to chat with the rock shop on main street. Of course the garnet season is over out of Clarkia. There is also a very good rock club in Moscow that will get you on some great locations. If all else fails contact Mickey Gunter @ U of I and ask him. (Geology Dept)

Been there and done that in Moscow. MS Geology.
