I picked up a .300 WSM last year. Great gun, kicks like a mule though, but I like a little push..what sort of problems have you had exactly?? I was having some trouble with a stiff bolt, but I learned that those guns are really designed to load from the mag, so if you're droppin one down the tube it doesn't load as well...

They tend to get hot pretty quick, so you might let it cool a bit longer between pops when bench shootin.

Outlaw I am thinking about that same gun. How is the kick? I shoot a 30-06 now and was wondering if the kick is compareable or alot more. thanks LIL

Lil,
I have the same rifle as Outlaw, .300 Win Mag Browing A bolt, I love it too. It is an absolute tack driver. It has the Boss on it and the recoil is about the same or less than my .270 Win. It is loud but worth it. Here is a four shot group I shot with factory ammo after I got the BOSS adjusted so the rifle would shoot Federal Premium 180 gr. nosler partitions consistantly. I shot once and my buddy said "ya, I see the hole" so I shot again. He said "you missed the paper", BS!! so I shot again. He said "no, you are missing the paper, so I quickly shot again..."OK, now I see a hole" We went down to look at the target and at 100 yards we could only see two holes but you can see what was happening.

I have shot deer on the prairie in Montana at 400 yards. The buck in my avitar was taken at 370 yards. I am very confident with my Browning .300 winmag A bolt.

It's the .300 win mag, Browning A bolt with BOSS. Minimal kick, I can shoot 20 rounds in a tee shirt and no sore sholder. It flat lets the air out of a deer, elk too.

I too just got a .270 WSM on friday. Got rid of my BAR and picked up a Tikka T-3 stainless w/lamianted stock. I didn't care about the stock option, but I wanted stainless, and that's what they had on the shelf. So good by BAR, and hello Tikka.
I put a 3.5-10 VXIII on it tha tI bought off this site last year. After bore sighting and cleaning, the first shot was DEAD CENTER at 100yrds! I then shot and cleaned after every shot for the first 9 shots, raising it up in elevation. My second to last group was like Tallys pictured above (but a little too high). I dropped the elevation a little and I'm VERY pleased.
A great gun (so far), with a super sweet adjustable trigger. BTW, I'm using new Federal Premiums, w/140gr Nosler Accu-bonds. It belts like an '06, and I'm looking forward to some longer shooting this week.

Bought the 300WSM model 70 when they were first brought out 3 or 4 years ago!!! Excellent rifle, real flat shootin but yes, did kick like a mule, quite a bit more than my 30-06 did, but in my opinion it was a much better rifle flat out! I to thought the bolt was pretty stiff, but just kept her nice and clean and oiled up and she never failed on me!!!
