Checked some spots today for Matsutake and found zero. There was however plenty of yellow Chantrelles up. Picked a lot today in one spot.

Those pictures you've been posting motivated me to get back out to see how the mushrooms were doing in our neck o' the woods. Lots of different fungi in the forest here, but most seem to be past their picture taking prime. We've had so much rain that many chanterelles are past their eating prime as well. Yesterday, about a third of the chanterelles we found weren't worth picking, another third were less than prime, and a third were in good shape. Probably time to look for a new patch at a different elevation and exposure. Something else I've got to look for...a digital camera!

Changed locations and got into a hillside that had not been picked this year. Chanterelles everywhere; some the size of saucers. They had been up so long, and been through so much foul weather that 80-90% of the mushrooms weren't worth harvesting. Still, we brought home two bags of the best looking chanterelles we've found this season. Didn't find any white, or black ones.
