Absolutley brilliant. I've seen similiar made from old (smaller sized) laundry baskets with the sides and front cut down, and the plastic "tines" were made from the thickest plastic line from weed wackers (the fluted kind). The bottom was welted under controlled heat so it could be spread out like a nail head, then hot glued both top and bottom through a small hole in the bottom of the basket. Strap it around your waist with your wading belt, and off you go. I bet you could make one for less than 25 bucks.

You could probably use thin diameter plastic kniotting needles instead of weed wacker string material though it would be thicker.

except for the price there are much cheaper alternative like the $ 20 basket from LL Bean. I gave up using mine don't think they add much for the fly fishing I am doing.

The "Classic" home-made stripping baskets use glued-on inverted plastic CONES or small inverted balls cut in half at the bottom... the inverted cones or balls produce much less drag on the line, and prevent it from tangling...

those small balls are they hollow like a tennis ball or am i way off base. also how big are the balls? open question eh????

Shooting baskets (good ones) are few and far beteen; usual drill is if one coil of line falls out into the current it will pull the rest out 'PDQ.'
Would like to see how this works in a moving current. Would also like to see this at a far lesser price; skip the belt?

I think the orvis one was similar to that one from the UK it was about $ 60 as I recall so I opted for the cheap $ 20 one for now, if I did a lot of surf fly fishing it may be worth it, but did none this year !!
No one out here has a Torridge yet couple of fellows on the river have already asked me about it and I pointed them to Red Shed.

Similar idea here'Stu., winter's upon us so lots of 'head systems' and long running lines for the next few months. Don't mind 'shooting line' off the water is it's a fairly slow flow ... add speed and it can be a real pain.
Will keep you posted.
