question about my lab

k so i have a chocolate lab i got from a hunting kennel in iowa, hes a great dog but he got really sick when he was really young (8weeksto 12weeks) with what we could only determin as whip worm, nehoo since he has been developing course course hair on his back and tail, started looking like corn rowsalmost know just course and his tail is really course and its starting to get a little white hait on the underside of his tail coat? i havent seen this before some one said mabee he had chesapeak in him and someone said there are two types of lab coadts silky and shinney and coarse? i dunno he is almost 6 months now and is heathy in every way and growing good i was just wondering what might cause this?? thanks

He's getting his "grown up" hair, and his winter coat. That's the good stuff that'll keep him warm and shed cockleburrs (see my "My dog is one big cockleburr" thread). Nothing to worry about at this point. You said this dog is papered and came from a reputable kennel.

Our lab went through an "awkward hair phase" around that age. Some parts still soft puppy hair, while others were rough....very course feeling. He is now 5 and has a typical lab coat. He also has a few white hairs here and there(a few under his tail, like 5 really thick ones on the back of his neck...right below his head). I think that comes from his mother being a yellow lab. Ours is AKC papered, so we know he is not mixed.

The breed standard for Labrodor Retrievers discusses the occasional odd white hair. My black lab had a few, and developed more of them as she aged. Mostly around the muzzle. Funny thing, it must be contagious...I'm getting them too.
