Any recommendations? I've looked at Lanber 2097, Verona LX50X series, Stoeger Condor, Remington-Spartan, and Mossberg Silver Reserve. I'd really like to spend as little as possible and still get a good, servicable weapon. I'm looking for a 20 gauge...

$1125.00 was a bit much for me. You found them cheaper than that? I was thinking $650.00 or less. Looked at the Baretta's. They are o.k. but didn't fit me well.

Mojo,
Save a little longer and spend the extra money. Otherwise you will regret it. I've got 2 Ruger's o/u and I love them. That's probably the cheapest you'll get on a quality O/U. I also have a Browning which is sweet but I did not pay for that one nor would I today. Keep your eyes open as I've seen slightly used Rugers for 7-800 bucks. I'll keep an eye out for you up north.

Thanks Denali. I'll check the lightly used bin on some of the shotgunning sites and the local gun shops.

Mojo, I have a lanber O/U sitting in my gun safe collecting dust, but it's a 12 ga. 5 screw in chokes from skeet to full. I don't need it anymore since I inherited my Dad's Browning twelvette.

Beretta used to make one for about 800 new. Try looking for a used one.

Aren't SKB's made by someone else (big name shotgun manufacturer)?
Fish4steel, I'll call you tomorrow at work.
I just found out I can buy new weapons for 10% over actual cost. I'm looking in to Browning, Beretta, and Ruger through them. Gotta explore all my options.

mojo, I too have been looking for an inexpensive but quality o/u. I have really considered the spartan. But have not seen one in person. Have seen the sxs cowboy model from spartan and the quality suprised me for the price.

Michael, I played with a Spartan 12 ga today, and it is decent, but paled in comparison to the Ruger Red Label 20 ga I was slinging as well. I'm thinking the Spartan fit me better than all the other inexpensive O/U's that I've looked at lately.

Mojo, By far is the ruger a better gun but can also come with a pretty good price. I have found a few around 850 and would really love to have one but my budget is also restricted. If you come across a steel on a ruger 12ga w/28" let me know.

For those of you who expressed interest in my O/U, I'll have it at the range day on 12 Feb.

SGM, I'm still interested in your O/U. I have not been able to find one to look at locally. So far of all the guns I've played with, I like the Ruger best.
Good news, my 11 year old daughter will need a new 20 before turkey season, so I have to buy 2 shotguns this winter. The financial department is already steamed a little, but the pay-off is she'll get a "free day" every weekend next fall when we go hunting.

Any ideas on how you can get it in your hands to try it out? I'm not planning on the road trip for the upcoming 'tilla, or I'd bring it over, and I doubt you're planning a road trip for the range day.

Personal opinion, the Ruger is about the lowest-price good quality O/U you can get. I only have heard a few complaints that they are "hard kickers". After that comes the "B" guns (Browning and Beretta). None of 'em fall into your price range, but they are quality guns that will last you a lifetime. Just make sure they fit you well!

Don't know if you found what you were looking for, but I found this. Not sure if it'll help. Worth a look I suppose.
