      #226012 - 12/31/05 12:31 PM

Anyone been out there lately? We're gonna give it a try tomorrow, weather permitting.

I havent been out since that bit of cold, calm weather. I wound up going out three times and got three. I suspect you didnt make it out. Judging by the wind at my place in Bothell, you would've needed to borrow the Abe from the Navy and troll it up and down Saratoga Passage. Would've been kind of a fast troll.

You are right. We didn't launch. We were going to drop in at Camano Island, but the wind was already up at 7:30 AM. We figured it would only get worse! Oh well, we tried to go!

Yeah, the weather sucks. A guy has to try. Sounds like the OP is a little better. I'm going to call Olympic Spt Gds at Forks tomorrow, get a river report and if the Bog is even marginal, I'll try it Tues to Thurs. I like that river.

Sure is frustrating. The WDFW actually gives us a a winter blackmouth season in area 8 and the weather sucks so bad. Cant fish in this!

What's worse is half of the forecasts have been wrong and the day ends up ok part of the time. At least it isn't WDFW's fault!

Todays fish checks in Seattle Times: "Everett Ramp Sunday Eight boats with 13 anglers caught 6 chinooks." Not bad. I'm surprised anybody was out in that.

I guess it depends on what day. Sat AM seemed to be pretty calm even the forecast wasn't great.

best thing to do is pack up and go down to the ramp in the AM and give it the Ol' Hairy Eyeball. I'llbe doing that before the Hawks game Sunday.

I went out today by myself, launched at 6:45 at Everett and ran up to Elger Bay. Nailed one 29 inches and about 15 pounds (I didnt have a scale) around 10:00, 1 1/2 hours past high slack. Red Hot Spot, glo grn squid, with a small rainbow spinner ahead of it, 90 on the DR in 100 ft wtr. I didnt mark many fish and little bait but there are some fish around. Back to the dock about 2:00. I was feeling pretty sassy until the fish checker said I was the third boat, she checked 4 Blackmouth and mine was the smallest!

Seem to be some fish there but I think the long period of wind has the bait and the fish scattered around. Not many out, only 5-6 rigs in the lot and I saw only two other boats.

Marine forecast for Saturday looks good. I've kind of gotten into a habit. I fish Elger on an out tide, move over to north of Greenbank on the flood (near that abandoned house). If nothing at those places, fish the east and north ledges off Baby. I used to fish up inside Holmes Harbor, Dines Pt, but I havent been there in a few. I just havent done well at the Racetrack or the south side of Hat for years. Those places used to be my fav. I wonder if the Baitbox or south of Clinton has much going on. How about you?

I've been fishing the Race Track and South of Hat every winter when it's open. They are a couple of my favorite spots this time of year, usually I can count on a least hooking a fish or two at the Race Track, south of Hat is more hit or miss, but when it's on it can really be hot. I have only fished the Baby island area a couple of times, it's just too far from the Everett launch. We'll be out at the Race Track tomorrow AM, maybe hit South of Hat after the tide change if nothing is going on at the Track. I have a 17' Whaler Montauk with "WHALER" in big red letters on the side (you can't miss it) if you see us stop by. Of course this is assuming the weather doesn't go whacky.

I like the tide tomorrow - high around 0915, shouldn't be much current - perfect for the Race Track. I'll be pissed if we get skunked.

I made one pass through the Racetrack about 12;30 - 1:30. I did mark more fish there then up at Elger. It started to get lumpy and I had to get home. There was nobody there either early when I went by there or late. So I dont think it has been fished much. Elger is a run. But with this 4str motor, it is a lot cheaper to get there and faster than driving to the Camino launch.

I'm kind of surprised. I didnt think the wind was blowing much. Good thing about being retired, fish weekdays and wait for decent instead of marginal weather. Getting older has some advantages.

Took my neighbor out yesterday. Tried to launch at Everett but the pea soup was so thick, I could hardly even see the ground. Launched at Camino, no fog up there. Fished until 1:00. Nailed a 10 pounder around tide change but it had too many fins. Fish checker said 6 boats, 4 fish. Fished Elger Bay, couple other places. Marked a lot of fish, but the suckers didnt want to bite.

Pete S with WDFW (The fish checker if you know him) has scored the perfect job. He is sampling the fishing in that area. Him and another fellow hooked 9 yesterday of which 5 would have been legal keepers. Of course they are all being released. His go to tackle has been Coyote Spoons. He has been at this for some time. If you know him, give him a call.

I dont know him. I see those guys doing the test fishing. They're in about a 20' Alumaweld and it sez something like WDFW Research on the side. I pull Coyotes behind a flasher on one side and flasher/squid on the other usually. If I'm by myself I just switch back/forth until I find something they like.

The fish checkers I've seen lately are an older gal at Everett and a younger gal at Camino. Do me a favor, if you know the guys phone #, send me a PM, and I'll call him for tips! Thanks!

Cancel that last transmission!!! Bad tooth attack yesterday. I had to get a root canal today over in Bellevue. Maybe Friday. This is my fifth one. When I got into my late 50's they started up.
