Start of Fraser Valley Steelhead Season
      #226598 - 01/03/06 07:18 PM

After lots of rain and high water last week the fish started to move into the Chiliwack/Vedder and Chehalis rivers. The Boxing Day derby had a total of 13 fish weighed in.There are reports daily of encounters with Personally I can report releasing a 12-14# on the Chilliwack two weeks ago.Yesterday on the Chehalis I released a coloured buck, and had my butt kicked by a 10-12# chrome rocket.Roe-bags,prawn-tails,blades,pink worms and Jensen eggs have all produced.

No crowds yet.Even with 300 derby entrants(all probably did not fish since it was postponed from Boxing Day to New Years Day due to high water) I was surprised by how few people I saw.On Mon.the 2nd, two buddies and I had all of Chehalis canyon to ourselves. With the holidays out of the way and good reports coming in I'm sure the pressure will start to increase.

The brood year for this year saw good returns so odds and early indications/results are pointing to good numbers.Bad news is the rains have returned and the Chedder is bent out of shape again.

The Vedder has been putting out steel since early Dec. It is also not blown now either. Water is high but with about 2' vis in the upper with less in the lower.

Spoonman, you missed one in the canyon when I saw you a few weeks back.

Fishing has slowed a bit. water is getting real clear. If you are willing to a bit walking, the crowds arent too bad.

I fished mostly the mid-river and had some good results. Went two for three. Landing one 12lb. nate and a beauty hatchery doe.

it was out yesterday , but back in today. Fishing is still very steady with good reports daily. A buddy landed 6 last friday and even in the big weekend winds I managed fish along with other buddies that I know fished the river. Today's rain may put it out for a day, but it will back back in by thursday. Overall it has been a very decent season on the vedder. There was an 18.5 lb "brat" weighed in on saturday.
