I live on the SE edge of Boise backing up to Hwy 21. Kept seeing what I took for Western Bluebirds at both front and backyard feeders. First time in my five years at this location. Emailed everyone with some great closeup shots of these beautiful birds. Well, the other night while reading to my grandson from an Idaho bird book, lo and behold. Not Western Bluebirds but rather Lazuli Buntings. Similiar colors but very different once I saw him in the book. They stayed almost all summer. Gorgeous Turquoise males that were so skittish I could only shoot them through the window.

Lazuli Buntings are regular residents during the warmer months. We used to have tons of them in the area where I lived in the Boise River valley. Mostly spotted near creeks or the river. Now that I live in Mtn. Home, we don't see them very often. Cool birds.
