Yo BG!! Many thanks for the connect to Simon's page. Didn't know he had one.

One fun read was about the Japanese's first 'spey clave.' Interesting to see a term I had 'coined' is alive and well 8'ish thousand miles to the west. (For not in the know, "clave," is a shortened term for 'conclave.')

Shot Simon a e mail yesterday and he was back to me in just a few minutes. Good chatting with him (couple since); sites been up for a couple of months.

Didn't think to ask him to join us here on the board ; will shoot him another e mail on that.

Good answer! God knows there are a lot of them! One of my 'fav's' is the flyfishing forum board 'out of the UK.' Quite a group of people to put it mildly.

Did have fun a couple of weeks back when someone posted to the effect that they appeared to have the largest fly fishing board in the UK. May have been a bit deflaiting to them to find out the 'host board' is "Pro Boards" out of CALIFORNIA!!

Well that UK one has not derived much value for me the last year they are more concerned with ranting on each other than talking serious fly fishing time to move on for this Yank.

Found some others that look promising for 2006.

There are way to many of these boards out there thats for sure.

Well BG, have to agree that the fellows (and a few of the ladies?) can get carried quite away with themselves. When they get on a rant ....! Post wouldn't last 5 minutes before it had been pulled and person put in 'private moderation.'

Give them my best I will stop in once in a while perhaps monthly to see who is being ranted on now. I have some new sites to cover that are more attuned to my current needs

I have the same rod as FredA- Redington 11'3 mine is rated 6/7 - but feels and fishes as a 5/6. Medium action that works well on spey casts and short distance regular casts.

I did the switch conversion myself- cut off the reel seat- epoxied in a blank extension - and extended the upper grip overall length, by four corks -added a REC seat with a screw in fighting butt fitting- made a 6" "spey " lower grip and a 2 " standard extension- gives a choice between a spey rod and a standard rod.

I fish mine with a Cortland 444SL DT. Spey casts like a dream with big nymphs and small streamers/C,dads etc for Smallies/Walleye/Whitefish/Goldeye etc etc etc out to 70-80'

cost- Rod Ebay -$80.00US
cork/seat etc- $50.00 US

<happy fellow:))

"Warm water" fly fishing in Manitoba? Sounds like an oxymoron.

Will, have to agree, the Reddington 'evolution' rod does fish very much like a 5wt. Hadn't really thought about that before.

Good call.

Interesting 'experience' yesterday; I had to go into the Admin. section of a ProBoards site (UK fellows) to up-load some $ to buy out the Google advertising. While doing same noticed their statistics: they 'host' OVER 1.4 MILLION individual chat boards. That's a heck of a lot of folks on the internet expressing their 'opinions.'

Reason I have to 'buy out' the advertising (money's sent over to me) is to register/open a board (at least through ProBoards who are just short of their 80'th full time server) is the 'owner of the board' has to have a verifiable US address and phone number.

That being the case, all 1.4+ million of these are folks 'here.' Chatty Cathy's' aren't we?

Will,

An interesting e mail this morning. Will leave the who from out of this, but the suggestion is going to be made to Sage, who now owns Reddington Rods, they actually produce 'our rod' as part of their line up.

Will be interesting to follow.

Gotta, been too long. I remember them being called (wrongly) goldeneye. As a basic food sourse for large fish they'd be somewhat akin to the GL's Alwigs (sp?) or 'shiners/etc' for Bass in a fresh water lake.

Swimming dinner if you will.

SV, that 'anology' would be a better fit for me to that a member of the herring family. Actually, the only member of the herring group that comes into fresh water (spawning run) is the American Shad.

Any others come to mind?
