Why make a bad situation worse? new
      #229979 - 01/24/06 07:12 AM

Well what a way to start the week. Monday morning drive to work is the usual traffic plus a light rain that for some reason terrifies drivers in northern Virginia and Washington DC suburbs forcing them to drive like more of an idiot than normal. About one mile from work, traffic is being detoured so I follow the detour and after about two blocks rear end this guy about 10 mph, maybe less as the airbag did not deploy. For some unknown reason (cell phone) he just stopped after we had been moving ahead. The closest car in front of him was easily 30 feet or more. I must not have hit him too hard, we both drove away.

So he and I exchange info and I asked him why he stopped and he could only answer "I dunno I was on the phone" which in turn pissed me off b/c had he not been on the phone he would not have stopped and I would not have hit him. I know, I know I hit him = my fault ... but whatever

But wait... it gets better

As my truck (05 F150 FX4) and the other guy's car (Mazda Miata) are in the left lane with our flashers on and traffic has been using the right lane to pass by, this guy comes up behind my truck and starts honking his #*&@% horn and yellin to move out of his way! He gets to the space between our cars and rolls his window down more to continue his rant about how we are somehow preventing him from driving in the empty and available right hand lane, which he is in, and has now come to a stop to yell at me about " blocking traffic" which he was now doing. So of course he gets the one finger salute and I tell him to drive off.

Well of course he can't do that because he needs to make a bad situation worse by pulling diagonally in front of the Miata, but not enough to keep from blocking both lanes of traffic now. He continues to jaw something out the window which I can't decipher, and the guy I ran into and I can't figure out why this guy is still on the scene running his yap. I finally yelled at him to either step out of the car or STFU and drive! After a muttered word or two he didn't stick around.

My question is this...what would give you reason to antagonize this already bad situation?

You shouldn't have exchanged more than a few words with the individual.

The first thing I would have done is to get some writing material and take down license, make, model and personal description. That's usually a big enough deterrent, since the guy can't be sure he isn't guilty of violating a road rage law. If he doesn't depart, and continues his abusive language, I would then pick up the cell phone. At that point, he will surely drive off.

Just let it go, it isn't worth getting shot.
