50 big ones is the cost, it is more than just simon casting, you have all the big named casters.
hate to say it, but i had simon's book and sold it, i think dec's new book will be the must have. i think there was some excerpts of it in fall 2k5 fish and fly.
don't know about tips section, i do know hazels new dvd covers a bit of that, picked it up at the show in TP for $15 that's 10 bucks off retail and paid no state taxes.

BG, What do you think should be covered in a "tips" section that is not covered in any spey casting dvd? The timing may be a little different but the casts aren't different.

Fred
Crap forgot to ask: Mike, this is 4 dvd's long, can you give us a 'thumb nail' on what's covered above and beyond the trailer? Many thanks again.

I believe it is a two disk DVD. Acording to the info I have the casters are Simon Gawesworth, Mike McCune, Scott O'Donnell, Dana Sturn, and Ed Ward. Rio is hoping to ship this Wed. I hope they do as I have many orders. Everyone seems to be really looking forward to this DVD.

Interesting group; several of the 'usual suspects,' but Dana? That surprised me. Not a dig as he's a darned good caster AND instructor, but this (I think?) is a first for him.
Fred
Mike, RIO's web site says a 3 dvd set and 4 hours in length.

<still thinks Derek Browns's vid is one of the great fundamental building block teaching tools out there:))). The basics shown clearly and precicely- master those and everything else is a nuance:))

Fred you are right, 3 is what it says on the Rio website which I hadn't looked at. I have something around here from Rio that says "double disk". Three disks is alright with me, I just wish they would get them shipped.
Will I agree on Derek Brown's vid. It is a good one and even better it is now available on DVD.

Mike, I know it's too early to make a comparison, but when you get the RIO vid's mind doing a bit of comparison (including price)? I'd like to get something of this nature, but if you're going to be "bucks up" might as well spend them reasonably wisely. Fred

Well I watched a bit of Mike McCune, Scott O'Donell, and Ed Ward while I ate lunch. That looked pretty god, as it should from 3 "skagit jedi's". I most likely won't get the whole thing looked at for a few days. I does have 3 disks.

I can't watch it until I am done with the Sopranos old episodes, I am on # 47 now have to go to 60 I think by March 7th when the new season starts on HBO.
4 hours of watching people spey cast though is going to be tough though, may need two bottles of Merlot for that night.

hbo has been re-reunning the last couple of months.
rio's 3 dvd set is a good idea, you can watch one at a time. neat concept, better than sitting thru 3 hours plus of lord of the rings trilogy.

MY God BG, there is no way that a true spey addict would make the above statement. It is no wonder you are suspended in the "spey abyss.

What do you expect - he's "hammered" with the Merlot, and the "princess" is not too happy about it!

I am now on episode 51 of the Sopranos past season episodes have to get to # 65, good to watch these while tying flys sipping merlot on a -7 degree day, thought I would be fishing this weekend after all it was 50 degrees here just 4 days ago. Looks like the wind is not a factor so the wind chill will be not bad today.
Hey did you guys see all the spey rods for sale on Ebay a couple of months ago there was hardly anything. Now I see fly shops are putting new rods up there what does this mean perhaps the end of the spey rod demand peak and good deals for frugal guys like me and the rest of you.
I see Hammers big daiwa tournament 16 footer has no bids yet, the one he calls THUNDER. LOL giving him some grief on that on another board he has been trying to convince me of that big sticks virtues

Interesting about e bay; haven't been there for ages (save for a joke web connect in some post). Not that I need any rods, but one never knows ... some gem might drop into my lap.
Interesting part about the few times I've bid on an item on e bay I've only "won" a couple of times. Seems a lot of folks like to do last second bids and raise the anti a buck to buy.
Personally, I don't have that kind of time to waste.

While there are some good deals around I wouldn't hold my breath as to the spey rod demand having peaked. If you do, you will turn blue.

MJC is right on, we are just seeing the tip of the iceberg for 2 handers.
most of the rods on e-bay are from guys that tried it out and found the rod or style not too their liking.
as to the shop rods pretty sure it is old inventory that isn't really moving.
back to the dvd, watched all of it yesterday (much better than sopranos re-runs) this baby is worth every penny. in typical rio fashion it was put together with a lot of thought behind it.
i give it 3 1/2 stars, watching it on march 20th (ala Fred) would make it a 4 star event...
