New Hunting Dog
      #233917 - 02/16/06 11:34 PM

Just acquired this guy. 8 month old minature red poodle. Has attitude and spunk. I told the wife that given that historically the poodle was bred as a retriever breed I intend to take him duck hunting next year. Received that look from the wife. He should be perfect for those close in birds.....not to sure about geese but certainly ducks.

Nearly removed my arm last night,,,,one of those snuggle up to the wife moments at 2am and all of a sudden I've got 6 pounds of Cujo in my face. He's better trained now as to who's the dominant bull of the house. He whipped all 120 pounds of Whitedog already....poor dog has taken to drinking canadian whiskey again. The other 5.27 dogs on the premises have apparently decided not to test the new guy. The 3 cats decided to simply be pissed off at everyone.

See Gooose, that's why I kick every poodle I see. I had a traumatic experience when I was about 6. Little boot polisher ran up and jumped as high as he could with fangs bared. Guess where "as high as he could jump" was? My knee-cap, you perve , but he about got it out of the skin. The little bugger wouldn't quit. I finally got a hold of his throat and started to choke him, and he let go. Since that time, I've been anti-poodle.

I did hunt over one (standard-bred) that was dyed camoflaged. Fetched 3 limits of geese that day. Funny thing was, that dog was eyeing me funny all day.

I always thought that a poodle was nothing more than a cross-dressing cat.

Found out the hard way that either our place or the puppies provider had a Parvo infection. Been a long 24 hours. I wouldn't wish these past hours on any living being.

Pup didn't make it. The vet said it was the most agressive occurrence he had ever witnessed. Rest of the 7 dogs on the premises haven't shown any symptoms. They all have had recent booster shots so hopefully they're safe. Apparently the breeder from which we got the pup didn't give it the complete series of shots. Big lesson learned...next time we'll be asking to talk with the dog's vet rather than assume it had been properly vaccinated before taking the dog.

Sorry to hear about the pup Gooose. Many nights and days spent with pops dealing with Parvo. It's a tough one, close to 50-50 was caught and treated. A lot of times older dogs can carry it without showing any signs, or by humans stepping in dog piles and transferring it that way. I'd disinfect everything you could, using bleach where possible if you can.
