I am way up north in southern Puget Sound. The pic above was from family down in Newport. (a neaner pic sent to me to remind me what sturgeon look like!) Fish could have been out of the Umpqua. Bro in law's fished it for over 50 years. More likely out of the Yaquina Bay.

im fishing in tillamook, had seven bites and caught two of them. one was 36 inches and one was 47 inches, both were released. 4 hours fishing, it was ok for my first trip of the year, very average i would say. sturgeon are always a ball though, best biting fish made...prognosis....no crabs!!

If I had to pinpoint it, my guess would be near the mill somewhere.

seems like the average fish in yaquina are piggier than most. the fish that i have caught there were all below sturgeon bend, right below the mill. i just get so many more bites in tillamook, it is worth the drive.

I think I agree with that 365. I get lots of pics of sturgeon from the family down there and most are pigs.

Up here, the Chehalis fish would get fat like that too. But alas, too many wound up in gillnets so it's not worth trying anymore. Whatever is left, I prefer to leave alone.
