Hey Southfork,I've been a auto technician for 16 yrs. the last 8 at a Toyota dealership.I've worked on and driven them all and you cannot go wrong with the Tacoma. They just plain outlast them all,and this is from a die-hard Chevy guy!I've owned about 15 Chevys at one point or another but my old stand-by is my 86'4-Runner.My Dad bought it new and ran the livin' crap out of it and then bought a 98 4-runner.Iwas telling him I wanted to buy a 4x4 for a fishin' rig and he made me a hell of a deal on it.Then when gas shot up over 2 bucks a gal. It became my daily driver.Ain't as comfortable as my lowered 2wd Suburban but gets way better milage and ALWAYS runs!

Coming from a guy that works on them for a living says a lot. I used to turn a wrench at a GM dealership and we where very busy. From what I’ve seen they only improved a already superior product and any improvements are customer motivated unlike others that redesign something and hope it’s a seller. Take Hybred’s for example. Who’s leading the market here. I spent sometime in the Highlander, and the Lexus 400 and all I can say is damn. Some are born to lead and the rest are following IMO. If you pay attention after you been in these SUV’s and then sit in the Tacoma you can see the layout is very similar. I will tell you I think the engineers have a fetish about drink holders. This isn’t a bad thing ether. Now both GM and Dodge have come out with a Hyred truck and this a great example of the Ready, Fire, Aim approach. When Toyota introduces there’s I’ll buy one without a second thought. This is why I have money down and am waiting 6 very long weeks to get mine. It’s only a number on a piece of paper and hasn’t even hit the assembly line yet. I’m making them take off the TRD Sport stickers and it won’t have a dealer sticker on it. If I could get the Toyota and Tacoma badges off I’d do that also. IMO this truck speaks for itself and I’m not buying it to impress anybody but myself. Hell the Snugtop will be here before the truck and it’s going to be a very long 6 weeks I’m here to tell you.
Marty you might envy the truck but you wouldn’t envy the payments. You get what you pay for and trust me I’m paying for it Lifes to short to drive a Chevy

Southfork, you are obviously brain washed. GM is leading on the hybrid truck front, and it isn't even close. For sure, Chev/Ford/Dodge lead the large truck market. Toyota makes a nice baby truck.

I'm brain washed.... Now that's damn funny At 2% fuel economy savings doesn't justify the cost in my book. Stick with your first generation attitude maybe you'll be in the second someday. If I wanted a real truck I would buy a Ford
Jim when I see your hood up I'll stop and see if you need help. I'd tow you but the Toyota wasn't made to be a chit hauler

Toy brain, toy brian, toy brain....sf, Two things...
1. I've only put 160K on a Chevy before I traded it, so you'd never see one of mine broken down. 2. I wouldn't want to overstress your Toy, so I'd call AAA.

How can you tell if a Toyota 20R or 22R is out of oil? The front main seal stops leaking.

Jake only the motor division in Japan thanks me and I should be thanking them. The 4.0L is twice the motor the 3.0L ever wanted to be, I know I owned two of them. 75% of the parts on this truck are made in the USA and the truck is assembled in California by americans (I hope you never know down there). I suppose I could by a GM product and thank a Mexican or a Canadian.
Jim you know what GMC stands for don't you?
Generally
Malfunctioning
Continually
I agree the Tacoma is not a full size truck. More like a Mid sized truck with a sports car attitude
Marty the dark blue is causing the wait on this truck since only two are slated to be built in the near future with the package I want. One a 6 speed manual and mine with the 5 speed auto which has my name on it. The auto gets better gas milage but it's also a $900 upgrade. The only options I didn't get was there POS running boards, Roof rack, and the auto dimming rearview mirror. It'll be worth the wait I'm sure

I'll race you to gas pump Jake You'll need it The 4.0L V6 VVT-i isn't to far behind your V8 guzzler and blows there well GM designed V6's out of the water! I have well over 500K of over the road miles driving BIG trucks and it's not HP that gets you over the hill trust me.

17-18MPG for the 5.3. no sweat. get 15mpg in my old school 5.7 350 ( just crept over 130,000 miles and still going strong.). never had a vehicle in my life that did any better on gas so it's no diff to me. pull a trailer every day too. not sure where you're getting your info, but my old mans rig has the 4.3 6cyl vortec and i can tell you it screams. not to mention his '85 chevy pick up. god knows how many (hard) miles that truck has seen, but we could fire it up and drive to orofino tomorrow! believe his 4.3 is an '02 and at the time, outpulled everything else in it's class. GM builds a good motor. i can tell you that first hand. that 5.3 is a bad ass power plant. just my .02. not saying other truck manufacture's dont build a nice truck. just saying i've been abusing chevy motors since i was a kid. i got no complaints.
