If the OP rivers do not cooperate with me on Saturday was thinking of trying to fish from one of the Ocean Jetties. Only done this once with my uncle about umpteen years ago. Could someone tell me some technique, bait (will Razor clams work?) and maybe also what the best Jetty to fish would be? Would be nice to catch a nice Ling. Even a Rockfish or something, I have had the worst Steelhead season of my life this year and I'm starting to get the shakes. Need fish.

Been a decade since I did this but back then I fished this fishery a lot. Go to Westport and fish the finger jetty behind Harbor Charters. The best fishing is off the end and south side. Half way out on the south side is two rocks barely below the surface. Find it and put a sandshrimp in the slot in between. Catch will be mostly greenlings and perch. Rig up one of the small half pound live greenlings on a stout rod and cast out 20 to 30 feet and let it set....Mr. Ling Cod will find it. Move this setup around every 20 minutes or so as you're looking to presenting a plate of dinner. Also wait until dark and try a white bucktail or hoochie about 4 feet behind a spin bobber. Black Rockfish will be all over that.  Cast out and reel in. Last time I did that it was 38 Black Rocks in 38 consecitive casts....cast 41 I checked my bucktail and found the hook had broke off. All of those wild Black Rocks were released btw. Occasionally you will also get a ling cod to do a surface take at nite.

not many people night fish for blacks, when i was 12-15 years old, i used to live on the rocks at night. they sure do bite good at night. if you want to target lingcod off the jetties, a technique i like to use it bobber fishing herring or squid. it is good practice for salmon as well.

If there is bait like achovies or sardines inside the marina at Westport try surface gear at night around the lighted docks. Keep an eye out for surface signs of both bait and something feeding on them. I bet Rapalas or similar gear would be killer. Expect rockfish, lings and an occasional surprise.

Night fishing...lights....docks....jetties...sounds like the perfect location for squid! You might want to explore the possibility. You can catch your bait and dinner all at once.
