it has me scratching my head how many pictures of fish that were released on this site, then i post one that is a hatchery fish and i'm the only one to catch crap about it. that was my point though, my hooks do more damage than the photo, again, if anyone see's me doing anything in my posts that you think could be done in a more fish friendly way, please inform me. i do not claim to be an authority on anything, just be diplomatic about it.

Please continue to post pics of legally handled fish. People have opinions on how to handle fish. Freds and others are valid opinions. Some opinions are based on science and others are bases simply on opinion. Personally I wouldn't put any fish on the dry bank if I intend to release it...thats my opinion. I might take said fish out of the water for a quick pic if I desired to....thats my opinion. Would I chastise someone for doing so? Nope.

I365, most guys don't disagree with you takin a pic but leaving a CNR fish on the dry bank can only hurt the fish. Even a couple inches of H2O would have been fine..but by all means...keep the porn coming!

yeah, i'm sure it would not be a problem to leave those released fish in a little water, and i could see how it would benefit the fish. i never took pics of released fish much before so there was no reason to take them out of the water, i guess if you want to take pics there is still no reason to take them out of the water. thanks for the input guys, hopefully i can practice my revised fish photography today, i only got one yesterday, thanks again and i will keep the pics coming.

fred, it isn't coming up on my computer. i definetly have alot to learn, but i try to be fish friendly. i never used to take fish out of the water, i never even carried a camera. i am open to any recomendations on any subject, that is how people learn. just state your concern and educate, i do not respond well to an attack. there are many points of view around and i know that i will be targeting wild winter run steelhead for years to come, any advise will be cosidered. there is no single fish friendly method to catch them so i would like to be easy on them trying to release them.

Interesting. I never meant anything i said or asked as an 'attack' yet you obviously misconstrued it as such. I am beginning to see how things work around here for some.
The prick that catches more fish gets the support and backing at others expense, whereas the prick that doesnt catch fish gets ridiculed and chastised.
I wanted to know ifish365's reasoning for pulling his fish on the bank next to his lollipop sticks for a pic lesson. Not intended as a hostile question. I mean come on I am learning everyday how fish so when I see something like that on a board that usually hosts pics of either retained fish or fish (in or over water) about to be released, I have some questions.
I never expected to make friends on-line and so far I havent been disappointed.

"Handling and Photographing a Fish
• Keep fish in the water as much as possible to minimize air exposure.
• Never place your fingers through gills or in the eyes.
• Don’t hold heavy fish by the jaw as this may damage the jaw and vertebrae.
• Hold large fish horizontally and support its body to avoid damage to the internal organs.
• Use wet hands or wet cloth gloves to handle the fish.
• Have camera ready prior to landing fish to minimize air exposure.
• If possible, photograph the fish while in water."
Sounds like pretty good recommendations to me.

Well, I for one will not lay a fish on the bank and take a pic then turn it loose, it just aint right.If its gonna be CNR then he will be released while still in the water. What anyone else does is on them.Whether the hooks do more damage or not, why do more? When all the fish are gone, I guess we can take up knitting.

Some folks catch more than a punchcard in a season so they release fish. Others don't like to eat them or have so many dam fish they don't need more. Heck if fishings good you can still fish if your not tagged out. Pure speculation on my part since I have never caught that many

i agree, they shouldn't be layed on the beach, i know that now and understand why, i was ignorant in that part of my fishing. i try to learn something everyday and you will never see another pic from me with a released fish on dry ground. i live for this sport and do not want to hurt it in any way.... rookie, the way you worded what you said was not good for me, if you have a concern then ask me and i will respond. the list goose put up there looks good to me. i do release many of my fish, i eat a little and give alot away to people who enjoy it and cannot obtain it. on a lighter note, fishing is still good... thank you guys for all of your input.

Ifish, did you ever get the link above to open for you? It's a large PDF type file so it could well take it's sweet time if you're on a dial up connection.
I think Goose's 'bullet points' above fairly well sum up the conclusion(s). All that said, I, like a lot of others love 'fish porn.' Too bad (so far this season) I've had zero occation (yet) to take a photo.
Been darned interesting so far this season on the upper Rogue. Well over 3,000 fish into the upper 30 miles of river and NO BODY is consistently finding, let alone hooking, the darned things.
This is turning into the 'mystery season.'

i can't get it on my computer, it just shows the little boxes with the x in them, like it's a picture or something. like i said, i never used to even bring a camera, and i have seen daily catch reports showing pics of wild steelhead on dry ground every day for a while and no body said anything to him, so i guess i didn't think about it. life is about learning, and i have alot to learn. thanks for your opinions and advise, they all help. i'm going to see if i can catch a fish now, thanks again.

Don't sweat the small stuff ... life is all about learning. Sounds like your browser setting are seeing the pdf file as 'spam' of some sort. Things many pages long so a cut and paste would take forever ... even if I could do it. Which is doubtfull given the format.

I'd guess he doesn't have Adobe Acrobat reader loaded on his machine. I'll see if I can find a place with a free download. Seem to recall Idaho Fish and Game website has it. Just click on the fishing regulations and it'll lead you on from there...
