Caveman and his two pals only caught one small one and only saw one other caught in 31/36. Freshwater Bay and the Rockpile were dead.
Hopefully, today there will be fewer fishermen and more butts.

Total skunk for Caveman. There were like 16 fish checked for 36 boats at Ediz Hook when he got back in.
I told him to wait a few weeks and pass on this early opener.

Mr. Nav, I thought for sure if anyone would get into it would be you.
This just confirms my suspicions. They aren't here yet. I was told by a long time charter boat Captain up in Ucluelet that Halibut don't start showing there until mid April and that the bulk of them are still out in the deep depths of the ocean. He'd been running charters for halibut for over 30 years...
I thought the early opening was not going to be productive.
The rule I always went by and proved to be the best, was if it was shrimping season in Hood Canal, it was halibut time in the eastern straights. That means mid to end of May.
Caveman will be trying again in 2-3 weeks.

AM, the early season was not good for me last year either. Gotta get it in while I can. I plan on hitting it from the 20th to the 23rd for a last harrah!!

One of the PSA guys I know posted a pic on their website of the stomach contents of a Halibut they caught yesterday, it was shrimp. Aunty, your smart.
