For the past two weeks I have been consistently getting 2 pair of mourning doves at my feeders. Last year at work I'd get sets of 50 to 100 doves at a time. Are these birds becoming more common on the west side or am I just at the right place at the right time?

Fill a feeder, and they will come.... I get bunches of em at my feeder, along with a host of other species.

We've had'em here at Sequim for at least the last 10 years. Lots of winters they stick around all year, and never do migrate. Like possums, I never remember having any around here when I was younger. Mine usually feed on the ground, where the redwings kick the food out of the feeders.

Or are they just easier to spot in the dark?

I've got a fairly good year round population too. Plenty hanging around in the winter. Ground feeders along with the quail, song birds, and more recently a pair of mallards that are probably looking for an appropriate nesting location.
