April 11th we arrived in Yakutat. The weather was partly cloudy, a slight drizzle coming down. After getting our luggage we decided to head over and pick up our rental van which we would have for the next 5 days.
A week earlier we had shipped our camping gear down as our plans were to camp along the Situk River. Shortly after arriving, we realized that camping wasn't the best idea. In some places along the river there was close to 3 feet of snow.

We went over to the Yakutat Lodge and reserved a room with them for the week. At $100 bucks a night split between the 3 of us, it was the best plan.
The next day the third person in our party arrived. After picking up his gear we suited up and hit the river.

The lower river was beautiful. Lots of nice crystal clear pools like the one above. We didn't see many fish in the lower sections of the river so we decided to head up-stream the following day.
It paid off
The largest fish caught in our group was 34 1/2 inches long

WE WILL BE BACK NEXT YEAR!!

Boy, do I remember that river. Fished it way back in the early 80's and had a blast. We floated from that million dollar bridge to the takeout down in tidewater.
Caught lotsa Steelhead and later lotsa Silvers.

My Bro fished it in the 80's. Camped alone in a tent in the snow, had a .44 along for Yogi, and had a blast!!!
