Bank Access at Chain Lake Near Monroe? new
      #238455 - 03/18/06 11:23 AM

Just curious as to if there's very good bank access to fish Chain Lake in Monroe? I just read where recently it was stocked with some nice trout...I've never been there before but know where it's at.

Minimal bank access iirc. Float tube or small row boat or electric motor.

Just got back from the lake and it was a big 0 for us in the fish department. Small lake that I thought had been planted already this year. If it has they sure didn't like us.

Thanks for posting that Brian...Although, I received a notice in my email but not here...Wow...That's wierd.

From my understanding it's already been stocked as reported by the Washington Fishing and Hunting News Weekend Update...Here's the info:

Weekly Trout Plantings ...
The stocking truck's really starting to warm up. Here's where WDFW's been
planting trout lately:
ASOTIN COUNTY
Golf Course Pond, West Evans Lake: 150 1.5-pound rainbows apiece
COLUMBIA COUNTY
Blue, Rainbow, Spring lakes: 100 1.5-pound rainbows apiece
Spring, Watson lakes: 2,000 to 3,000 .33-pound rainbows apiece
FRANKLIN COUNTY
Dalton Lake: 2,500 .33-pound rainbows
Marmes Pond: 100 .33-pound rainbows
GRAYS HARBOR COUNTY
Lake Sylvia: 250 1-pound winter steelhead
MASON COUNTY
Lost Lake: 100 1.5-pound broodstock cutthroat, 6,000 .33-pound rainbows
Isabella, Island, Kokanee lakes: 3,000 to 4,000 .33-pound rainbows apiece
PIERCE COUNTY
Bonney, Bradley, Wapato, Waughop lakes: 1,000 to 1,500 .33-pound rainbows
apiece
SNOHOMISH COUNTY
Chain Lake: 2,533 .33-pound rainbows
THURSTON COUNTY
Black, Lawrence lakes: 5,000 .33-pound rainbows apiece
WALLA WALLA COUNTY
Quarry Pond: 2,500 .33-pound rainbows

=========================

As you can see, Chain Lake was supposedly planted with 2533 .33lb Rainbows.

That Weekend Update was from March 17th.

Take care,

Mike

Yeah, that is what I thought... Didn't see hide nor scale of them though. Where 2500 trout could hide in a lake that size is beyond me. Don't think it was just us either though. We talked to a couple other people that were coming off the water and they hadn't caught anything either. My little fish finder wasn't showing anything either. >SHRUG<

I've been out to the lake few times, including last night. Our first trip out, my girlfriend nailed a 17-inch, 2.1 lb rainbow. Fat guy...fought like hell and she used a size-70 rainbow shotshot trolled behind the raft about long cast distance with a splitshot. No luck other than that though. I did see one big rise yesterday. I've tried everything from carey specials, hotshots, flatfish, and even a minnow jig for a few minutes. It's a very pretty lake with natural shoreline so it's nice to get out anyway.

Perhaps time to drag out the raft and dust off the gear. Last time I was on Lake Wagner I tore up my knee getting out of the boat.

I am going back to this thing and giving it one more shot. There has to be fish in there somewhere.
