Japan Spey

Japanese style, if only that sauna was a little closer to the river and I can could cast from their in the buff and warmth. Looks like a good time to me.

had an uncle i never met, he was one of the unfortunate souls in the Bataan march.

2 other uncles served in the pacific, one had ship blown out from under him, 1 uncle took part in the Normandy invasion.

the 2 in the pacific really like nothing Japanese, one in the euro theatre is not as anti japanese.

Stupervisor, my Grandfather on my Mom's side was part of the infantry that liberated Bataan. Until the day he died, he hated the Japanese. What really ticked my Grandpa off the most, was that he was forced to be part of the "Occupation of Japan" after the war. Some guys in the Occupation who never really fought on the front lines (or saw what happened to our prisoners) had a great time. He just wanted to go home and be away from them. I was the fortunate Grandchild to inherit most of his military belongings.

Now, my Uncles on my Dad's side fought in the European theatre had no problem with the Japanese or the Germans. Maybe it was the German heritage that made it easier to deal with.

Never had a problem with it. It actually saved tens of millions of lives - on BOTH sides. Had the war continued, they would have resisted as suicide fanatics to the last man, woman and child, and we would have had to exterminate them all!

One of my buddies (I knew him when I was a Marine during the Korean conflict) was a veteran of the Bataan Death March. He was in the 4th Marines (if I remember right) that had been moved from Shanghai to the Phillipines just before Pearl Harbor. One of the "neat" things the Japanese had done to him was split his tongue, among other things! He was a Warrant Officer when I met him in the early '50s. Also, a I knew a lot of guys who were veterans of the island hopping campaigns in the Pacific had stayed in, and they were our senior staff NCOs

And I also have several cousins and uncles who served during WWII in the Pacific. Many of them were wounded during Banzai charges and trying to clear the fanatics out of caves and holes. And a couple whose ships had been hit by Kamikaze. And a few of the gals in my family were nurses and they served aboard hospital ships.

A couple were also KIA, and their familys proudly had gold stars in their front windows.

None of them had any love for the Japs.

any of you catch the movie "the great raid"?

it is a hollywood version of a true story, very good movie, really instills a strong dislike for those yellow buggers, especially after you see what they were doing to the POWs>

i now know why they did not surrender, facing a war crimes trail was not on te agenda. at least they saved us the trouble of trail/room/board until they were found guilty.
