The local utopians from Port Townsend send letters to the local paper about becoming one with our mother earth and our brother and sister wildlife. They suggest learning to communicate with them.
One of these days I am going to respond to a missing kitty complaint in the same paper by suggesting the complainer host a drum circle and tribal sweat lodge and get to know their brother and sister "yotes." Maybe some cougars and bobcats also? Fricken hippies!
We are probably seeing an upswing in predator and prey numbers. Saw a ton of deer out feeding lately...I haven't seen numbers like lately for a decade. I've even been seeing pheasants and quail in decent numbers. We've had a couple mild winters so thats aboutwhatI would expect to happen.
Course more territorial predators will lead to more human/pet interactions....especially in the urban/suburban environment. Maybe it's time for the urban/suburban majority to let the rural folks get back to dealing with the situation?

Goose just wait until the mis-leader and our hairy friends from town pass their expanded no shooting zone ordinance and you will have plenty of oppotunities to write in about missing kitties. Every dog has it's day, and that day's coming soon around here.

The local wardens response to Port Townsend requests for assistance with coyotes and cougars is that "Hey you're the ones that passed the no hunting law for the town...deal with it."

I'm sure they will hire a professional to come in and humanely trap them at taxpayer expense instead of letting Joe homeowner take care of the problem. Unfortunately the vocal minority always seem prevail. I like your sweat lodge idea except for the fact that will make them smell even worse, I'm not referring to the yotes either.

Goose,I'd love to be there when the local warden told them that! There is justice in this world...... WtF, sad to say but it's probably true....on bullet to fix the problem but bleeding heart "fricken hippies" rule the land and will spend hundreds if not thousands....

here's a little bit of an article from king5 web site. Just get a gun and tell the neighbors to stay inside for a while. I wonder if the tree huggers would relocate this flea bag after this??
BELLEVUE – Wildlife officials will begin setting traps near the Sahalee golf course in Sammamish this morning in an attempt to capture a coyote that attacked two children Tuesday in the Eastgate area of Bellevue.
Officials believe the attacks may all be by the same animal and have mounted a serious effort to track down and kill the animal.
One of the children attacked Tuesday, a 1½-year-old, was bitten on the ear while playing at the Eastgate Elementary School playground around 7:30 p.m. The other child, a 4-year-old boy, was bitten on the buttocks in the front yard of his Eastgate area home, according to the Washington State Department of Fish and Wildlife.
Rachelle Bec said it looked for a moment as if the coyote was trying to drag 18-month-old Tristan Bec away.
"I started screaming and clapping my hands real loud and I kind of freaked out," she said.
The other victim, 4-year-old Jacob Town was in his yard when, "the dog came … the coyote came and bit my but," he said.
Town's father, Kelly town said his family had seen the animal a few times in the past few weeks running up and down the street.

That's so tempting, like watching one of those metal ducks go back and forth in a carnival shooting game...

I live in a rural area and do see yotes across the creek from my property, when we first moved in my youngest kids were 4 and 6 and often looked out the window across the creek to make sure that nothing was in the field across the divide(creek). I've got a rifle and would have no problem plinkin one of those metal ducks form several hundred yards if my youngins were playin outside.

Us "Freakin Hippies" got nothing to do with the bunny huggers. In the old days, Hookah pipes and roasted bunnies went hand in hand. Bunnies, Eskimo pies, old peanut butter sandwiches, we'd eat anything.
Us hippies have also removed many song dogs, crows, starlings (I’ve got 8 of those in my back yard this spring so far) and other unwanted predators.
Environmentalist (earth terrorists) are not "Freakin Hippies".
Real Hippies are at least 50 years old now, the others are just want-a-be freaks using our image in vain.

PETA types held a demonstration today to save the urban yotes. Not sure they got a lot of sympathy from parents of small children.

The area here in Jefferson County they are trying to close to shooting is mostly timberlands adjacent to some rural developments. Most of those lands are being sold off now for housing. Developers really have a hard time selling 5 acre lots to urbanites if the potential buyers can hear gunfire from a mile away. We had the same problem come down in Quilcene Bay with the newbies and those looking to sell not liking us quacker blasters. Three times they tried to ban us ...three times they ended up tucking tail. I must admit I enjoyed testifying at every meeting.

Any chance you'd be willing to give up any info on where your hunting down there? I tried to do the right thing last year and do my homework on what was private property and what was designated as public access outside of the no shooting zone in the habitat areas. Unfortunately I didn't get a lot of cooperation so I stayed in my boat and hunted out of bridgehaven. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

If you don't mind having company with you hunting the info will be free. There's ton's of opportunities. Contact me nearer to the season. 90% of Quil Bays tidelands are actually public....very few know that. I have the maps.

Hey I say protect the urban yotes because it's an important step to my populate large cities with large predators to eat stupid people(like PETA members) plan. Next bears, wolves, and finally the big cats(should help clean up the taller buildings in large cities).

Every condo should be required to have a pet cougar and black bear imho. Let them urbanites get close to the nature they want to protect. Hmmmm time for an iitiative me thinks? Damn

We have faced the same situation here on Harstine. A vocal group from North Point managed to get a restrcited zone for their wildlife pets. Fortunately, my property is outside that area, so I can plink away.
We have seen/heard fewer coyotes this spring compared to last year. The dumb deer population is about the same.
