Crappie fishing in Washington new
      #231627 - 02/02/06 08:15 AM

I dont remember doing much Crappie fishing when I lived in Washington, some Sunny fishing but thats all. Now that I'm in Minnesota, Panfish are second only to the Walleye, thought I'd show a few pics from this winter.

10.6" Pumpkinseed

10.4" Gill

14.8" Crappie

Some really nice fish. That's one heck of a fish shanty...lets see some more pics of it. Growing up in Wisconsin, my dream was to eventually have a nice shanty out on one of my favorite lakes. Unfortunately I left the frigid north country before that happened.

Almost broke the state record tonight, this one is 1 lb 4 oz, record is 1 lb 5.5 oz.

The lake is called Lake Itasca, central Minnesota.

Ill have to take some pictures of the entire house, also have 2 portables. Gotta have that stuff to live here!

I'm on a great pattern on these huge sunnies right now, I think I have a shot at a record. Going to go every day I can and try until this pattern ends. Also getting Slab Crappies too, for about 60 minutes, as long as I follow this "path" I found them traveling, I cant get the line down, they hit it on the drop. The only problem is the frozen fingers makes it tough, gotta fight through it though

As for the Crappie state record, thats never going to be beat. 5 pounds, I doubt there is a 4 pounder in the state.

Good luck on your pursuit of the record, Chad. I hope that hot streak lasts through the ice fishing season. Keep posting the pics and reports....good job!

Missed a big boy today, I'm sure it was close to the other 10.5 gills. He had shoulders. Did get a nice 13" Crappie and a few more 9.5 Gills tonight. This weekend I'm bringing a rookiw with me from out of state, I'm sure he will proble get the record isnt that the way it goes!

We are in a big cold front, it totally has changed the fishs path. Did get one more 1 lb 3 oz, 2 oz off the record. Also another 1.1 today, but nowhere near the amount of fish. Hopefully they return cause we are close!

Red Lake, Minnesota!

First trip to URL this winter. A friend from Iowa came up to fish a local lake that I had been doing great on for Crappies. However it shut down on me the moment he arrived. So, I said lets hit Red and set a few tip ups out. He has heard of Red, the stories of the Huge Crappies, and now he has seen it

30 Minutes, 20 Crappies. This was on about hole # 150 though. Every fish came out of 2 holes side by side. 10 feet either way, nothing.

So after we get our limit and have a few beers, the flag goes. I had a 10" Sucker on that one. Big Fish, fought it for a few long seconds but she broke off. I gotta stop using Mono leaders . The day still was one of the best.

Every fish came on a spoon with a waxie. Largest was 1 lb 14 oz, smallest about 1lb 7oz.

Didnt break 15" as usual.

As we left our hot spot was devoured by a hungry pack of fisherman. Only those 2 holes were still working. We sat in the truck and watched 10-15 more Slabs come through the ice.

Here is Gene and his first taste of Red Lake, he is already planning a summer trip.

By the way, we didnt get and Walleye or Perch, nothing but Crappies.
