Only time I ever fly fished was when I was about 14 and caught a 7 lb summer run. What a hoot!

One of these days I will devote more time to the fly rods, but I can't seem to put down my casting and spinning rods.

Well ... two biggest. The largest was a spring run King here on the Rogue. As luck would have it a guide boat came by and gave me a "lift" or there was no way I was going to keep this fish .... 18 foot 11/12 spey rod or no.

Anyway, fish at side of boat and fellow puts his 35# scale in its jaw. Fish isn't half out of the water before it's pinned at the bottom. That's when I said; "let her loose." "What???" "Let her go, there is no way I can use that much meat." Best guess was well over 50#

The other was a 26# 8oz winter steelhead on the Sixes River in SW Oregon. Rather disapointing fish; just wanted to sit in the same pool and play 'tug of war.' He lost.

30 lb michigan king salmon, on a 9 wgt single hand fly rod, amongst a pool filled with downed lumber, miracle I ever landed that fish, my arm ached for hours.

Approximately 130lb. poon on the South edge of Woman Key. Took about an hour and a half to land on a 12wt.

My biggest was this trout I caught in Dillion, Mt. I was fishing a spring creek on the McCoy ranch. I crawled through the grass on my belly to cast a very small knat imitation, it looked like a piece of lint on 2lb tippet. The fish's snouts were coming out of the water as they slurped bugs off the surface just a few feet away.
Quite an experience.

Biggest fish on the fly was a 10.5 lb Bull Trout off of Oregon's Metolius river. Not as big as monster poons and king salmon, but plenty of thrill for me and my 5/6 wt.

Mine was a 15lb Chum salmon on Bird Creek a few years ago. Nothing like flyfishing in combat fishing conditions. I was the only one flinging flies there. Made it interesting.

This is the biggest that I have a picture of. I got a few bigger, but that camera was stolen along with my vest, all my flies, tools, a couple of spare reels...pretty much everything. Nothing a little money won't fix on a BC fishing trip...

Mojo, sounds like you were up on the Harrison or Vedder in October?

Steve, if you want 'bigger' on a fly rod .. head north young man, head north. :>) Another option is to head to the Rogue over the next 60 days for the spring king run. Alternative is September-October for the fall kings 'down here.'

I'd agree with fred! We hooked into some monster kings on the Rogue. Let's just say that we had no chance on the 8wts with 8lb leaders.

Since all fish fight differently, and all rods fight fish differently, I put several fish with what rod they were caught on since if you were using a 15wt 8ft rod with a 80lb leader and a reel suited for tarpon then landing a 50lb king wouldn't be that special, but if you did it with an 8wt and 12lb leader i'd want your autograph.

30lb King 9wt, 18lb Silver 9wt, 7.5lb Brown 5wt, 14lb Steelhead 7wt, 9lb Steelhead 5wt, Handfull of high teens, low 20's chums 7-10wt.

Well would a 8/9 wt 13-9 Burkie count (12# tippet) count? Well, truth is don't know how big the King was as the fish scale only went to 35# and the fish was still half in the water when it 'pinned out.' In all honesty, if the guide hadn't pulled over and picked me up (I was fishing from the beach) the darned thing would have spooled me.
