Steelhead Scouts
Makes sense to me, and whom can disprove the hypothesis I ask?

There's a hole I frequent which has a nice overlook and as the sun penetrates the water I have observed on many occassion this scout behavior. The scout comes in, makes a pass, then drops back into the chute below.

I've noticed this on the little salmon when it's really low in the fall. A steelhead will come into the hole, rest a minute and then dart back down river. A little while later it came back with about 3 or 4 others following it. I also noticed once again that these fish couldn't resist the agent orange. I love that fly and I think I'm one of very few people that use it in idaho.

Ah yes, our upper Rogue fly 'done good' again. Actually, a lot of us here favor this version of the "Otis Bug" as it IS a highly effective summer run steelhead pattern.

A scout leader just like geese formation perhaps, maybe we are on to something and that Agent Orange works out here also winter and summer.

Suspect, like most local fly's, it's not very well known out side of our area. As an example, the Idaho folks brought it back from our area after finding it to be an effective "local pattern."
Doubt you'd find much (if anything?) even if you Googled the fly to get/find the pattern.

I googled it out of curiousity of what it looks like, my first search result was http://www.trophywaters.net/productDetails.php?recKey=324 but another that came up under the same name is completely different! http://forums.sanjoseflyshop.com/forums/139/ShowThread.aspx Which one is it? And does anyone have a pattern for it? I may be taking a trip up the Deschutes next weekend and would like to try it out!

Fred -
Instead of "which one is it?", the EASY answer is to just tie yourself a dozen of each, then you are covered!!
(Besides, I like the "redhead"!. Obviously, your tastes "favor" redheads, too!)
