Question for moderator
      #248270 - 06/03/06 07:47 PM

I have a question for the moderator. This site is called Steelheader.net. But the category Rod Building Custom and Repair gets almost no traffic. Could it be because it is categorized below everything from bird watching, campers, guns, spear fishing, archery, 3-D shooting, big game hunting, trout fishing, warm water species, trails and beaches and just above mushrooms, berries and flowers, taxidermy and woodworking, prospecting and rock hunting? I am really not trying to be a smart aleck I just wonder if there should not be more emphasis on custom rod building and repair which is a lot more closely related to Steelheading than all of those other categories and if more emphasis would not result in more posts relating to custom rod building and repair.

Hey Harry.
Well most of the guys know who builds rods and contacts them by PM. There is only a hand full of builders that post but I'm busy with work and kid stuff and had to put the 6 rods I've started on the back burner. Only one isn't mine and it's due
untill Xmas. It is a lami 7' 40 lbs class with a bumper wrap.
I will try to get busy and post a few picts.
Where are the picts of some of your rods?

Will Fish for Food,
You are right I have not posting any pictures of the rods that I have done for several reason. I build too many rods a year, 200 to 300, to normally take the time to do the kind of beautiful decorative wraps that some others do and also I have not bought a decent digital camera. There will be some pictures of one of my rods in RodMaker magazine though in an issue or two.
But that was not my point. There are other rod building sites that get 30, 40, 50 posts a day and here we are in the middle of the Steelhead country and this site gets a post a week in the category of custom rods. Maybe it is the emphasis that is being placed on custom rods. Categorizing it below bird watching and trails and beaches does not seem to make a lot of sense to me.

More posts and questions on the subject would create interest for sure. Section was created so we don't lose topics in the traffic we get from other outdoor interests. Look forward to your questions and pictures on the subject.

emory has more rods on the river in my neck of the woods than lamiglas, go down to pacific city, osprey rods are dominate there, i have 2, the wrap is almost too fancy for me. you custom rod builders just can't make a meat and potatoes rod.

I make meat and potato rods... would make more if I had a chuckable reamer setup and one of them power wrapper things
My custom building was created out of a need for specialized rods not available over the counter.

Harry I bumped the forum up and sorted some of the others forums in the catagories too. Thanks

Just poking fun at you Harry. I haven't posted many pict my self. Most of the rods I build for me are just meat and tader's
I'm building a flashy gaudy rod for my nephew and need to get back at it.

one solid color is good for me, i just fish with mine, don't spend time on anything but putting it together, i won't know the difference, you can't see the wraps past the residual eggs.

Chuck um up reamer comming in a month going to be the best thing since sliced bread. Meat and potato Rainshadows for me too just going to harvest with them anywase. My sturg and butt rods is another story having to stare at it all day I like a littel love, and a blonde mermaid sticker can keep my mind sain on the waiting game. Now the carbon handle on my rod holder rods is a sweet up grade and I encourage everyone to try one and that goes with all the up grades in general simpley makes a better performing rod.
