How would some of you guys define zipperlip? When do you trust a fishing partner enough to show it to him? Can you be sure he isn't going to drag a bunch of people there? I got a nice chrome chinook last week in one of mine but waited to have a picture taken after I left the spot. People go out of their way in order to find these spots after someone has posted a picture of a nice fish or two caught in that spot. What precautions should be taken to protect your "zipperlip" hole?

Ahhhh The Zipper lip, that can be found right next to the Notellem river. I will only take a two people to a zipper lip. They both know not to tell anyone or they are done fishing the rivers with me. I don't take to many photos so that isn't a problem. But I just keep my mouth shut if I don't want to expose my spot to a lot of pressure. I would rather fish alone than so the really great spots I just fish by myself.

On your way home stop at a different river for a photo. Then post no trespassing signs all around the trail to the secret spot.(I think that’s illegal)

Could Stew be contemplating taking me to his favorite zipperlip? I promise I won't bring my GPS Stew, and no, you can't blindfold me on the way there!
Whom should you trust with your zipperlip? That depends on the person's character, doesn't it?
IF I had a zipperlip to share, it wouldn't be hard to determine who to share it with. There are half a dozen guys I have fished with I know I could trust.
If you fish with the person regularly, is he a rule breaker? Does he leave trash or pick up trash? Is he careful with releasing nates or treat the fish brutally? Does he value the resource and want to protect it? Is he a braggert and like to kiss fish and tell, or is he pretty humble about his conquests?
If it is someone you hold in high esteem, I would say go ahead and take a chance. You might just have good times and memories to share down the road that you wouldn't have had without a little company. It helps if he is funny and has a good sense of humor. Save a spot or two for solitude though.

Zippers are hard to keep, since I have several,I always park in anew location if I can.In the past few years,I've only shared one of my favs with one person.
I must say Dan S. never complained once about the Blindfold being too tight,Of course the strip search for the GPS kinda pissed him off...it was raining....so Aunty better leave it at home...or else...bbrrrrrr ....Os

I lie like a rug about where fish are caught. the trouble I have had the last ten years is people keep building houses and posting no tresspassing signs where some of my favorite drifts are.I do'nt think there are any true zippers left, just go to any book store or news stand, the shelves are full of people horeing fishing holes just to see there name in print.

The definition of a zipper is hazy it could be a slot, a hole, a creek, a small river, a huge river, or an entire bay. Even beyond that it could be a marker bouy, a GPS coordinate, a time of year, a time of day, a tide level, a river level, a bunch of rocks piled up on a gravel bar, or a check out counter at Wal Mart that no one knows about and always has a short line.
Sleuthing out zippers is one of the most rewarding parts of fishing. I won’t tell you mine if you don’t tell me yours.

Write down a thorough description of the location and access routes and then embed it in the tax code - no one ever reads that. Someday, you can pass it on to your heirs by quoting the section, subsection, line, etc.

if i take the time and go search for a new place that holds fish and start catching them you can rest assured that i will tell very few people about it, if you cry like a baby that i`m not telling where my new spot is all i can say is get off your lazy ass and go do some searching

It means "Silence is Golden!" I remember telling a friend about a "secret" hole I'd found that was a walk in. There was no obvious trail to the spot and I'd kept it that way. So you can imagine my surprise when I went to the trail turnoff only to find a full sized trail. He'd taken his chain saw and made a throughfare to my spot complete with discarded Molson ices from his trip down with his friends. (I learned a valuable lesson that day)
Many of the spots I fished over the years were relatively unknown and thanx to F&H lies, these spots were exposed and the hordes arrived acting like long time locals.
I certainly believe it is a very bad idea to give out hot river spots over the internet. Helpful fishing info yes...but locations ...no. Just my 2 cents

I defend my zipper lips with the most severe terrain I can find.It alows me to talk a little more freely about some of my favorite rivers.
The more roads they block off the more z-lips that are created. They just need to ban them damn quads.
I think a z-lip is really a favorite fishing spot more than it is a secret river.Alot of my zlips are more knowing the run timimg than they are secret spots, just knowing when the fish are present.

Stew, for me it's simple. I pick one or two people that know how to keep their mouth shut and thats it. No exceptions and they do the same. I have places where I walk in off the road 40+ yards away just to protect the access. It's nice to go to a spot in the middle of the season on a weekend and not see any fresh footprints. Oh, one additional thing is I dont tell people when I have gone and catch fish. the old ask me no questions and I tell you no lies kinda thing. I have lots protected spots in the past by just telling one wrong person that I thought I could trust.

My friend and I came up with code names for a zipperlip to insure no one knows what we're talking about. Yep old DVDA was good this year....
