Well so far so good I think. There has been little destruction besides a 12"x12" piece of insulation she ate and the want ads from the Lewiston tribune which I wanted . Crate training is without a doubt the way to go. With borrowed kennels from Mojo and then luv2fish she has her own safe haven. She now just rides in the back of the Toyota and is a good traveling dog.
She discovered the fine art of digging Friday... Any tips to nip this one in the bud besides the business end of my shovel?
She's a log legged blonde for sure..

Throw HER poop (not yours) in the hole then cover it up with the dirt. She will start re-digging, get to the poop, and then WHOA NELLY! It works.

that works
Do you have an electric training collar yet? If not, it's about $250 and works wonders. Available at most pet stores and is well worth the money, especially if you plan to have a well trained, obedient dog.

Tony, electric collars only work if you catch them at the act. If You catch them in the act, you can discipline them using other methods that don't cost 3 to 5 hundred bones.
My point, if you decide to use a e-collar, get a good one, get training on how to use it, and be consistant. You can ruin a great dog with an e-collar if you don't know how to use it properly.
Yes I have one, and use it sparingly on my springer.

I'm not saying you should terrorize your dog with Sparky the Collar, but it will work if you use it as intended. Do yourself a favor and take a class with a certified dog pro and both you and the dog will gain from it.
It can be a very useful tool when used properly.

Tony, I had 13 years of professional training with my lab. Family member does it for a living. I know e-collars work, but there are other less intense methods for stopping a digging problem. If it's a boredom issue, get another dog. Yeah! SOUTHFORK needs another dog!
O.k. back to reality... I totally agree that with the proper training you can learn to use a e-collar correctly. If I can, anyone can. Just make sure you get the training, and stick to the program.

OK this damn dog is pushing the limits. To date everything has been ok but the little bitch decide to carry my cell phone somewhere. I'm now on day 5 and the search continues and I hope she didn't bury it in the backyard somewhere. I don't believe in beating animals but at this point in my life I truely can understand the concept.
Cute little puppy my ass!

#1 it's a lab pup #2 if it's got your scent on it it is fair game if you leave it where you shouldn't #3 ...#2 applies for the next several years #4 it's a lab pup
Solutions:
Don't leave anything and I mean anything you do not desire to be chewed up where the pup can get at it.
Provide mass toys and encourage the pup that they are for chewing.
Wear the pup out every day before leaving it alone.
Many years ago I got a beautiful 14 month old male yellow lab for free. I was sitting at the kitchen table one morning having my coffee and I kept hearing this wierd crunching noise. Finally got up and peeked out the window.....the Dog, named Mike btw , was eating the stern of my 18 foot fiberglass duck hunting kayak. Solution was move the kayak.

Here's a couple other options....
1. I'll come over and poop in those holes for ya.
2. If all else fails, get yourself a bigger carrying crate and seek refuge in it from the little [**whoops**].

Gooose, This is my first lab and they do have a strange way about them. She is smart and is learning more things everyday. Some good some bad but hey the world is not perfect why should I expect her to be.
Dean, That crate from John is deluxe. Perfect for her and she spends alot of time in it. None of this time is forced. It's her hole and she likes it.
I might have pulled the trigger to soon but I'm I got her.... aaaaahhh eeerrrr most of the time

SouthFork labs can be a handful as pups and even as adults. Another nasty chew toy to be careful you don't leave accessible is any fishing gear with hooks attached.

VERY good point Gooose! Before she landed I was anal retentive about that. Everything is stored above her reach in a room she is not allowed in and can not get in without me there.
Still trying to look for a stop to the digging problem without a shock collar and Dean crapping in the holes in my backyard...
A guy at work said rope her front legs together.... This just proves what I thought of him.... He is an idiot....

SF I wouldn't bet on that lab not getting in to where you don't want her. Mike, the lab I had before WhiteDog and prior to BlackDog, figured out how to unlatch gates and once locked my cousin out of our house after a duck hunt. Bob was standing in a foot of snow with just wool sox and union suit lookin in the back door window while Mike the Dog waged tail inside lookin out. Cousin had to replace glass window on back door. So be forewarned to expect the unexpectable from your lab. Oh and if you drive a stick shift and the dog rides in the front seat remember to always set your emergency brake. BlackDog was good for occasionally parking my truck elsewhere in any sloped parking lot. He was h@ll on check books and wallets also.

I hate to tell you that you have a fire breathing field trial style lab there. Seems like I warned you and others about a high tailed lab, but hey, what do I know. Anyway, you can't leave your pup or me mine unsupervised unless you want something unplanned to happen. They will entertain themselves. Its crate time when unsupervised. It sounds bad to crate your poor little pup, but the phone could have been something toxic or something else ingested.
In case, you didn't catch it...I have my Brittany pup now. I've had her a little over a week now. She was a handful at 8 weeks, and has already terrorized my daughters friends, and taught them she was the alpha female. I'm sure I've got a future of fun, too. Hey, but she's a great looking little dog with fantastic bloodlines that just needs some boundaries set. She's my own little "trouble" although I'm not positive on her current name of Penny.

SF it's a common conclusion that ones dog is much like it's owner. So if you quit digging holes in the yard the dog will likely follow suit.

SF I feel your pain.
We lost our chocolate lab of 12 years last march.
We lasted 1 week ...then we got Satan's daughter a yellow field trials (some call them american labs)
She is night and day compared to my old girl,
I expected differnt personalities. But holy S*it not this.
Not too many holes just about 100 feet of lattice from around my deck,2 hollow core doors,1 solid core ,lots of sheet rock damage several shoes etc etc.Shes' 15 months now ,it was hell for a while.Shes' trurning out to be great dog,a little too independent for me at times.
We're gonna try her at agillity trianing after she turns 18 mths(wait till her growth plates are completely formed),cause now she's 75 lbs of coiled steel spring.
Oh ya did I mention the garden hose.........Os

OS I bet these two have some kind of relation. I hope you people are not thinking I hate Trouble because I DO NOT! This little long legged blond looker has been the best companion man could ever asked for. Sure at times she has her moments but don't we all?
The lastest was when I was out of town and she hit the auto lock and locked herself in. Now it was already about 100+ outside so inside was freaking hot. I was on the phone with emergency road service and after they put me on hold for the third time, I took action and tried to jimmy the rear slider open. Toyota builds a hellva truck and let me tell you.... Them there sliders will not come open without breaking the glass
Has anybody priced rear glass for a 2006 Toyota Tacoma? I have it's $759.00
