I used to keep my old Glasply at an Anacortes boathouse on Guemmas Channel back in the 80's. The boat house closed up in about 1988. I used to fish around Cypress Island, Tide Point, Eagle Bluff etc. and Pt. Lawrence, but I havent fished it in 15 years or so. Secret Harbor used to be real good jigging Pt. Wilson Darts about now.
It opens 7/1. Does anybody have any up to date info, how it was last year, hints or whatever? I'm thinking about giving it an all day shot next week. Send me a PM if its a zipper. Is the launch at Washington Park (Fidalgo Head)still there? How much is the charge? Is there a ticket machine or what?
Thanks, Gary

Washington Park ramp is still there....they charge $3 to launch as I recall. You pay the iron ranger and put the paper on your dash.

I was reading in the paper that some of the Bio's were cautiously predicting it may be good up there this year. I haven't stopped in at John's Sporting goods in Everett in several years, but they usually had pretty good info there.

Thanks. I buy stuff at Johns now and then. I've also had some reels repaired there. He's probably a good source. One thing about fishing around Cypress, the scenary is nice. A lot of the fish are Frazer stock, I think. The regs say you can keep fin or no fin but only one limit. I moored my boat on the lower Willy at Freds this spring for 10 weeks. I took my boat home 2 weeks ago, may have been too soon but I was tired of the drive. It was OK, made five trips down there, 11 in the boat, 3 wild. Those guys have a better deal than us. This is an email last week from my friend who fishes it 3-4 times a week. They have a late spring run that goes up the Clackamas.
Took a PGE manager out after work Wednesday night and he caught 15 and 21lbers after 7:00 PM both on plug cut herring. He's a big walleye fisherman and promises a trip. He spent eight years on the Oregon Dept of Fish and Game's Board of Directors, and chaired it for three of those years and in his PGE capacity is responsible for the six dams on the Clackamas River. Interesting guy. He could not believe that these fish, Clackamas fish at that, could be caught this time of year. Hopefully he'll do more to ensure their existence while he is still with PGE. There were just two other boats out and at least one other fish caught that I know of. Thursday Carol was done by 1100AM with 10 and 32 lbers. Biggest Springer we have been able to keep probably since the 70's. 43" Buck. Both caught on plug cuts. One hook in the tooth line on the big one and the barb wasn't even buried so we were lucky she landed it. Would have kept fishing but the State bull saw her land it so she was done and went home early to pack for the upcoming move. Will send a picture of the fish tonight. I caught a 10 lb Summer Stlhd on Friday that had two large seal bites on it's flank. Wound probably would have killed the fish eventually through bacterial infection. Could actually see the innards through the clear membrane lining the cavity. Didn't seem to have an adverse effect on her. She jumped a couple of times (no small feat with 12 oz of lead) and gave a pretty good accouint of herself. Heard of two cases where two fish were hooked on the same rod last week. In both cases the fisherman ended up with one less spinner than he started with.

I've seen a lot of good reports for the Oregon rivers, it does seem a lot better down there. I have been tempted to try the C around Kalama but it's such a long ways to haul the boat. I usually end up fishing around Tacoma or sometimes at the Bubble.
Glad to hear you got some good fish this year. That's a good strategy mooring your boat down there.

I'm going to try and moor my boat at Port of Kalama starting in August for URBs. I tried last year but could never get a spot. It's cheap, they quoted my 90/month. But first come first served, so its hard to get a spot. I fished URBs once last year at the mouth of the Lewis. Fished 3 days, 2 guys 2 days and 3 guys the third. We got our possession limit of 2 each. The hoglines down there are a challenge. I saw a five way anchor line tangle, and we were in it. Not our fault. From what I saw though you can do just about as good in places away from the hoglines.
I tried Tulalip last Friday. I counted 62 boats in the AM and only saw one fish. I quit at 1:30 and I talked to the guy who got the one fish. It wasnt even a Tulalip fish, it was a five pound blackmouth that just happened to be in the area. I thought about going today but I have some things to do. All the runs were late this year so maybe Tulalip is late. I've yet to get a fish there however.

I have had spotty luck at Tulalip, maybe 6 trips total over the last few years with a couple of 12 lbers. I lost a nice one last year that got wrapped on a downrigger cable that was accidentally left in the water. It's not my favorite fishery but there is crabbing nearby so it's a combo trip. May try it next weekend, I like to wait until mid-July. One of the guys at 3-Rivers recommmended a Hotshot glow flasher with a red border with an off-white hoochie, fished at 70 feet and troll across the mouth of the harbor. I have caught my fish on that rig and the other guy in the boat, trying other stuff, has never gotten a fish, so maybe it is a good rig for Tulalip

Washington Park is there and has a machine. It does not give change although it does print a receipt if you give it too much money. Don't ask how I know. The ramp is pretty decent, but somewhat unprotected. It has a floating dock right next to the ramp. I wouldn't want to launch/retrieve at this ramp by myself. I'm sure it can be done, but could be quite a challenge with the right set of waves.
This spring people did pretty well for BM/Springers. At least, the BM that they caught looked like Springers to me, or they were huge BMs. We went over to Canada for Halibut. I'm sure that if you've done well in the past, it is worth a try.

jimh, been years since I launched at Wash Park. I am thinking about a weekday this coming week by myself. If the ramp at Wash Park is a little dicey for a loner, doesnt Cap Sante have a ramp?
