usual mode is to get yourself an insulated fish box and check it in with your luggage. extra cost will depend on size/weight and number of boxes. your airline can give you cost estimate.
note that some folks might try to sell you a "fish box" that is not insulated [foam insert] but has a plastic coated interior. i wouldn't recommend that unless you know that your carrier will have it stored under refrigeration - and even then its a gamble cause you don't want your fish thawing while sitting out on some luggage cart or whatever else can go wrong.

I'm crushed....now that was really a low blow.
John, coining a phrase from sicko Idahewes....Blow me!!!
As for the box of fish and crab brought back - it traveled well; looking forward to a feast sometime at Mel's when Curtis gets back on his feet.

Hard to say, varies from area to area. Years ago, while fishing around Ninilchik we found them in a grocery store in Soldatna [was told there that some other vendors also had em]. While fishing out of the Astoria area, Sturgeon Pauls fish processing shop had em. While up in Ketchikan we found them at a dockside bait/tackle shop. That'll give you a range of ideas for busineses you could check up on in the area you're going to. They come in at least 3 sizes and they've not expensive. If you're fishing with a guide - ask them....if not, ask guides/charters working in the area for sources. Good luck.
BTW, if you're flying through Anchorage airport, they have a cold storage locker [or used to have] that passengers could check their fish boxes in over night before a flight.

I filleted my fish and had them vac sealed and frozen at a processing place until we flew out. We bought the boxes from them. On Alaska air you can check in two 50 lb boxes free of charge if that is your only check in luggage. An extra 50 lb box is 50 bucks to fly back with you on the plane as an extra check in item. When I go back next year I will check in two coolers on the way up and use those for fish on the way back. I was not very impressed with the boxes that we purchased and used this trip.

Yeah, that's an option we discussed, but didn't do this trip....taking coolers packed with our clothes and tackle as our checkin lugage. Then filling them with fish on return trip and mailing clothes etc. home. As it turned out, I could have packed my halibutt in my shaving kit and didn't have any need for a fish box or cooler.
