Where to go in Alaska?
      #254053 - 07/22/06 06:29 PM

I’m in the planning stage for an Alaska trip for summer 2007. I have fished in many parts of North America, salt and fresh water, – but first time to Alaska. The trip would be a combination of an inside passage cruise, and extra time sight seeing and then fishing out of a resort.

Where should I fish?

I want a resort where my wife will be comfortable (meaning clean) and with great scenery. I’m not interested in bringing back salmon filets but would like to bring home halibut and ling cod. Catching a 30 or 40 pound King would be great but the first priority would be good bottom fishing. I live on the shores of Lake Michigan and catch many salmon in the summer. A big King for us would be 20 pounds.

Should I be thinking Kenai, Kodiak, or Sitka areas? Or, doesn’t regional location make much difference and I should focus more on the resorts and transportation costs?

Appreciate your thoughts.
