Hey there,
I'm coming down from Alaska to SW Washington this coming X-Mas and would like to go for some Steelhead near Vancouver. What should I bring and where should I go? Any help would be great. Thanks Sean

dynamite and water-proof matches is a good starting point
bring all the gear you can haul, no such thing as too much gear
for places, some of the other folks will clue you in on that
welcome aboard

At that point of the year (basing out of Vancouver) you have a TON of different rivers in SW Washington and Northern Oregon ... all within an hours drive. A quick review of a map will give you much of the info you need; there must be at least a dozen river/river systems within a short drive of your front door.

I suggest all the above listed rivers, but what i would suggest even more is, even tho he stinks, maybe hookup with WFFF and follow him around!!! Or get together with fishguidebrian or possibly Rapid Robert, Bob Barthlow of Rivers Northwest Guide Service!!!

MM, you mention Blue Creek. Probably been the better part (if not longer) 20 years since I've been there and the 'access' was a trip .. to put it mildly.
Any better now?

wintertime walking the trail...errr...gauntlet of mud, water and oh crap where did the bottom of that puddle go...especially in the dark.....slip and slide...it's like being on an ice rink....sure is fun...that walk build the anticipation of finally hearing the roar of the river....and jet boats. I will surely get back to my roots this winter...with the water sooo high this last year due to dam repairs, I had to forgo it...matter of fact, I catch many more fish hitting terminal fisherys like BC. Lemme know if you want to come down in December...i'll hook up with ya!~
