The IP has a moderate action comonly used for tossing crank baits and top water poppers for bass. I think they are great actions for throwing spinners or pulling plugs for Salmon and steelhead if you like braided line, gives everything a bit more cushion. The IP blanks are also great guide rods they seem to take more of the abuse and are much more forgivable when high sticking, not that guides would ever let there clients do that! ST model I'm sure your familiar with much faster action.

I'm assuming that you are talking about the action is commonly used for Bass, not the length. I truly believe that the graphite rods that most guys are using for plugs are the wrong action. Combine that action with braid and you will have lots of "drive-bys" or missed fished cause the equipment took the bait away from the fish. A composition rod or a full parabolic action will react slower and maybe hook more fish. The IP description sounds like this might be the ticket. I do know that Lamiglass is making a glass plug rod just for this reason.

Yes action. I use the IP904 7'6" 8-17 for pulling Tadpollys and wiggel warts. That rod gets the most take downs without question. Like you said the slower action of the rod in my opion gives a better presintation "for certain lures". Now pulling hot shots is a diffrent deal I would much rather fish the HS9000 tends to keep that snappy plugs working. My favorite diver and bait rod 16 years ago was an old worn out sloppy Joe G1000 Lamiglass wasent much fun to fight fish with but boy sure hooked um up! We here at Batson Enterprises understand you cant use one rod for everything because we fish so thats why we have well over 400 diffrent blank models. If you see a guy either in a 18 foot willies or a 8 or 10 foot poontoon with at least 8 rods than that would be me.

all i know is the ist 1024 is a dandy rod as far as weight and sensitivity, it is very close to the imx that it replaced, just a better price. it handles fish well and is super light in the hand, i'm impressed so far, i would like to get the same rod in 8-17

I would try the new XST1025 comming in next week will decrease your blank weight and also have a fast action like the IST1024. The HS1021 is also a good multy purpose 10-17 drift and plug rod but heavier and larger in diameter than the XST.

chris, is the 1021 similar to the loomis 1021? i love those rods, the ex-fast action is killer, i wish you could get a lighter rod in the 8 1/2 length that had that action, i have not found one. a friend of mine uses one in imx for high water steelhead, i have one in gl2, it doesn't quite have the sensitivity for me and 370 is alot to pay for a high water steelhead rod.

ifish365, Just catch a lot of fish with it. Loomis said that they were no longer making the SH1024IMX but for your use the Rainshadow IST1024 is probably a better rod than the Loomis SH1024IMX. The actions are almost identical but the IST1024 is a little lower modulus of elasticity which means it is a little tougher and the difference in weight is almost not detectable. I have had several Loomis SH1084IMXs and several Rainshadow IST1084s in my hands at the same time and it was very difficult to tell them apart without sighting down them to see which is straighter. The Rainshadow blanks were by far the straightest. I have also measured the resonant frequency of the two which would show up any differences and the difference in resonant frequency was very small. So that should be a good rod for you.

i'm sure happy with it so far, the action is identical to me, i like that backbone in an 8-12 like both of those rods have, it's hard to find in that line rating, i won't fish 12 on this rod, it , like the imx seem like perfect 10 lb rods, i will step up to 8-17 for 12 or 15 in high water situation, unless i get some better feedback on the 1021. when i picked that rod up last week, silas was showing me all of his rods you made him, i like how you make rods for everything, attention to detail and obvious years of fishing knowledge in every spectrum of the sport. if you ever get caught up, let me know, i would love to have one of your heavy blade rods, they feel perfect for casting kwik fish, again, if there is anything i can do for you, mention it, if you can't fish and you need some fish, i can always help with that, thanks again.

ifish365, I appreciate the fish offer but I have a little house on the bay of the Nestucca and this time of year I spend a lot of time there and get a lot of fish. In fact, I turn most of them loose, even the Chinook. If you want one of the spinner rods like Silas has just let me know and I will build one for you. This time of year I am always behind though and it will probably be close to a month before I can get at it. However, if you are going to use it for Quick Fish I think that there are better blanks for that application, blanks that have a faster action, similar tip but more power in the butt section. Silas has my number, give me a call when you have a minute and we can talk about it.

ifish365, Silas knows where my cabin is in Pacific City. It is a little gray house on Cindy Lane off of Airport Way, the fourth house on the west side of the road on Cindly Lane. I am usually fishing during the day but am there in the evenings. You are welcome to come by any time in the evening when I am there. I am sure that I would enjoy talking to you.
