Braided is awesome for jigging. Less diameter means less deflection. No stretch means more effective jigging. The rod has to move less to move the jig the same distance.

i don't want to start a "braid war" but do you think that would be the case with most manufacturers/types of braid?

I've fished 3 brands in the salt and never had a problem except when the dogfish were thick.

i just got back from fishing point D. It was my first time using braid in salt, the one thing I noticed is it was slipping from my downrigger clip alot. I dont know if this was just a coincedence or what but other then that I liked it. Shaun.

If you are going to use it for downrigging you'll need a diameter thicker than 30 pd braid.

I don't do downriggers but after years of doing sportsmans shows repping Power Pro I heard that just a piece of papertowel would help...heard that one numerous times, also to tie a mono stinger or like Gooose says.
Chinook...I have no idea since I have only used two brands and the other brand was years ago. Power Pro never failed me.

Someone trying braid for the first time for jigging for salmon should be forewarned about the infamous rod tip wrapping tendencies of braid. The stuff can be irritating. Solutions....adjust your jigging motion so that you never throw slack in the line....upswing smoothly...stop...count to 3...then a smooth downswing that maintains line tension between the rod tip and the jig. If you feel your jig suddenly stop on the downswing before it normally would hit bottom...sudden slack in the line...it's probably a fish. A slight upswing will give you the answer...nothing there then you let the jig contiue to tap bottom. Every once in awhile crank the jig up 20 to 30 feet and let it free fal again with a slight tension on the line. But always be aware of a wrap around your rod tip. I've found Power Pro to have less tendency to wrap than spiderwire. In another thread some guys suggested waxing the line for a different reason....I might try this in that portion of the line that is tending to wrap...say between 80 to 150 feet. Might help alleviate the problem.

We put new releases on our downriggers and the braid slippage stopped.
To help keep from getting tip wrap when using braid for jigging, try using a rod with a more flexible tip instead.

A jigging friend of mine showed me his technique for preventing the wrap. He makes a 8-10 inch diameter circle angling slightly away with the tip as the jig falls back. It seems to work pretty well.
