Dismal....there are fish in the bay but not yet in numbers for a decent fishery.

I was out yesterday. No hits. Not many boats. A sea lion had a nice 8lb fish in the middle of the bay. I did not fish much. Many jellies!

Work starts back up in a week or two depending on my attitude(that's a story in its self). When the tides are right, it is a great boat ride from seabeck up to the bay. Hopefully they will come in before my fishing time shrinks greatly.

Typically the fish dribble in to the bay starting in mid July with the main mass showing up mid to late August. When they do really show up in numbers it is pretty visible. I will keep the watch.

Few and far between. At best a handful of fish taken today. I would fish the shoreline north of the bridge up around Salisbury.

Motor mooched herring works sometimes. Trolled herring works sometimes. Buzz Bombs work sometimes.

Another trick is a mooching leader with a half dozen colored beads slid down it headed by a Indiana spinner blade on a clevis. Put a herring strip on the hooks and troll behind a mooching lead. Sand shrimp or prawns also work for the bait. Bead colors can vary.
A variation is to take a vibrax spinner and remove the hook. Attach a double hook setup on a 6 inch stout leader with a good quality ball bearing snap swivel and troll or cast.
Colors preference seem to vary...hot pink and greens are a good start.

A few on cut plug and a few using other gear. Depths varied greatly. Looks like the schools were heading over to Frenchmans Point on the westside of the bay. A few now trickling into the lower river.

I would hit Frenchmans Point and the shoreline north along the pilings on the west side of the bay. Early mornings, evenings and around low slack tide. Trolling I would try cut plug on a walleye type spinner blade setup...hammered silver or brass blade behind a 4 to 6 ounce mooching lead. Stay in 30 to 40 feet of water. Prawns, shrimp and sand shrimp also work well on that set up. Don't bother with spoons...for some reason they just are not interested. Stationary fishing also works where you see fish breaking the surface....the biters are gonna be on the bottom typically. The shore immediately north of Frenchmans is good for this....park yourself in about 60 feet of water and use buzz bombs or darts. Hot orange, cerise and greens work. Welcome to the Splash Zone.

Bay is absolutle loaded with fish.................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................except they are Blackmouth, Chumlords and searun cutts. There's a few silvers but you are more than likely to be hooking up on the aforementioned 3 species than a silver.

Thanks for the info. Unfortunately, work has started up so I need to go out on weekends. I can still get out after work until the time change.

A lot of fish close in to the beach at the Whitney Point shellfish lab. You'll also find a ton of undersized blackmouth and they are willing biters. Be sure of your fish identification...coulpe guys took home limits today of black gummed silver jacks. Small buzz bombs or large Krocodile spoons are the ticket.
