Just a post to see how people are doing squid fishing. I have heard some good reports from the Seattle side and know many are squidding in the Kitsap region due to sales. I'll be going out this weekend if all goes well.

I got out over the weekend. Many people are squid fishing. They are doing very well squid jigging during the day at the ferry terminal. Also doing well at the local piers at night. It should only get better!

You know it...If you have never squid fishwed before you need to give it a try. Any rod and reel will work but a long rod is best when fishing from a pier. All you need are a few jigs (4 is the legal limit here). I recommend using only one or two when you start until you learn the "feel" of the squid. They are a pretty cool animal and taste very good! They also make for great bait.

Went out tonight in the Bremerton area. Great night. Many squid! They were a bit timid and not very aggressive. I could not believe the number of Jellies in the water. We are talking thousands!!! Ran into many new faces on the pier which is always good to see. Pretty good size for the squid. I'm not talking large, although there were some really nice size squid. I'd call these medium size squid aprox. 5-6" with a few large and smaller.
It will only get better.

Squid are everywhere in the sound. The Edmonds pier is a popular place to go. You should be able to get squid from any pier. You just want a light source. That attracks the squid/bait. Some people even go out on their boat and drift with their light.
Went out last night and almost doubled my take. Definately getting the feel back. It usually takes a few trips to get back into the swing of things. I'll be going out again tonight.

Hit the pier again tonight with my wife. Best squid fishing of the last three nights. Comstant squid! Even saw a huge school of hundreds of squid moving through. We were there for about 75 minutes and between the two of us landed 11 lbs of squid. Great weather also. pretty warm out tonight.

The 11# was between the wife and I. Squid freezes very well. I've had squid that was frozen for over 1 year and it still tasted great. The meat has a low moisture content so it holds up well frozen. Teh stuff is also great bait. Use it for cabazon, lings, sanddabs, etc....
You need to get out and give it a try. It is great to go squid fishing when it is dark by 5pm. You can be home by 7pm and relax for the rest of the night.

Another use for squid is always appreciated. Are you talking about when they are in the salt or the river? Or may be the table..

The extra smalls caught in the salt make excellent bait in the lower rivers. Rig behind a spin glo.

Sounds good. I just came accross some info indicating squid live in rivers in Florida. I knew about fresh water squid in other parts fo the world but not in the US.
