Finally made it down the Oregon Coast and now I see what the big deal is. Oregon King fisheries flat kick ass on the Washington ones. The only bad thing is all the dirty looks the old grumpy locals give you.

It isn't those nice looking fish that gets the dirty looks
It's that bannana colored boat

It's them thar broodstock programs causing the difference. They be growing hook biters down there, while we're growing fish for gillnets up here.

I was the youngest guy on the river and I'm 42!
We were 30 miles south of Lincoln City fishing tidewater on a river I've never heard of. Trolling fish flash & herring in 5' of water. When they hit they go 100 yards straight out in a hurry. I don't want to advertise the name because those locals might find me and kill me.

Believe I caught my first two steelhead on said zipper but hey, the relatives drove around awhile before finding the launch, so maybe I was lost.
They very well might find you and kill you! Perfect guest fishing etiquette Kong!

I'm heading back down very soon and I didn't want to carry a bulls-eye on my back while fishing it from a boat that is not easily forgotten.

That tells me that Kong is safe to take to your zipper fishing spots.

It's a zipper but it's 5 hours away!!!
That's like having a zipper spot in Alaska or Idaho.
Trolling in that sled on that piece of water was like driving a Rolls Royce around the projects of South Chicago. It just didn't belong. Brewer's yella rod would have fit right in though. Next time we go I am going to put a spinning reel on a baitcaster and hold it upside down.

yep... it's a zipper alright
let me see... 30 mi s of lincoln city(used to shoot pool tourneys there)... it starts with A, but also just south the Siuslaw can put out nice fish
hell since you have driven 5 hours already, go another 1- 1.5 and fish the umpqua at winchester/salmon harbor...there aren't any fish in salmon harbor
you should prolly watch out for the local bumper sticker bandits too as they have been known to slap a "welcome to oregon... now GO HOME!" gift on out of state plates of fishermen in banana boats
