Walleyes, Where to get them in Washington?
      #261729 - 09/30/06 06:08 PM

Well my job is sending back to Washington for a year or 2. I need Walleyes! I know the Columbia has them, and the Potholes of course, and yes I will be there every other weekend I am sure, but what other lakes or rivers hold Eyes?

I will be living in Bellingham, also traveling to Long Beach for work quite abit. As far as I can tell there are NO lakes on the West side of the Mountains that hold Eyes, is this true?. I hope not but I think it is from what info I have found.

Also, what about Crappie lakes in Western Washington?

Cant wait to get out there, thaks Guys!

As i have heard there are no lakes on the westside that hold eyes. however potholes, moses, and banks are a good bet.

Roosevelt is another good Walleye water. Since your already good with Crappie then I'd say you should spend your time on Lake Washington. I've seen many schools of 2 lb. + fish on the Aqua View camera as deep as 30 feet. You know the typical places to look, Crappies are Crappies.

If you're going to be living up north, a good crappie water to consider up that way is Big Lake......seen some nice stringers come out of that lake.
You're right...no walleye's in Western WA. More place to look for them in Eastern WA.....Moses Lake (one of my favorites) Scooteney (Scootney?) Reservoir, Sprauge Lake.

Ill definetly hit Big Lake, Ive been there before. Anyone know if Walleye closes during the winter up there, or at all? No Winter Walleye fishing would stink! Does the ice get thick enough in the potholes area?

Im headed that way the end of next week, truck and boat, not much else!

What area are you coming to?
The rivers, Columbia and Snake, Potholes and Banks are open all year. The ice does get thick enough at Potholes sometimes.

Depends on where you'll be staying, but, I'd definatley give Roosevelt a try before you head back. I fish from the Spokane Arm down through Seven Bays and to Hawk Creek.

Will I be the only one out there, and what are the river launches like. Are there areas to avoid, any logs sticking up and stuff unmarked?

Chad, definately give the Columbia a try along the John Day stretch. Maybe hook up with a guide first cuz it can be pretty dangerous if you're not used to big river water. 10 lb walleye are fairly common in that stretch of the big river, and winter is a great time to find a trophy.....the state has shocked up walleye over 20lbs there.

That has been an unconfirmed rumor for years. I've never talked to anyone who actually caught one from Washington. I really hope that nobody (illegally) ever puts them in there.
