WA Muzzleloading new
      #261638 - 09/29/06 08:54 AM

Is there anyone out there that is going to be muzzleloading in WA? I have had a hard time getting out to scout this year due to gas prices and family obligations. I really wish WA had a better muzzleload season. Most of the guys I have hunted with in the past have gone to archery hunting.

I hunted yesterday and today for a few hours each day near my house (within a 30 mile radius). Saw 6 deer total, a grouse, a few bunnies, some elk, and about 6 other hunters. Gotta love ML season.

I don't know why you are complaining about the ML season.

Went back to an area where they had done some logging over the past year or so, when about 20 steps off the road I jumped a spike. He ran about 30 yards, then just stood there slightly quartering away. Well, I had to do Darwin's work, so KABOOM, and a few steps, and I had an easy downhill drag. Also got a grouse today.

I usually prefer the late season, but I do get the occasional early season buck. I only put in for one special permit on the East Side, and if I don't draw, then I'm happy to take the first legal deer I see over here.

Of all the deer I've taken, 10 have been less than 5 miles from where I'm sitting right now. You don't have to travel far, unless they don't have any open units near you.

I have been out hunting with ML and we have been able to harvest 4 nice bucks. ML season is way worth it...if I didnt have a place to go in wastern WA I would definately ML.
