whats the difference? i'm interested. loomis has the hsr1021, does rainshadow have a similar rod with the ex-fast action,,, i'm already thinking of whacking winter steelhead, can't wait. also, does rainshadow make a 8'6" or 9' 1 piece steelhead rod?? if so what line weights and lengths, just asking because it seems impossible to find 1 piece rods..... thanks for any response!!

Yes all HS actions are simmilare to what you are using but without the huge price tag. When you are ready for a float rod make sure you choose one of the XST you will not be disappointed.

ifish365,
I do not think that you want to extend an HS1021. It is a hot shot blank so it has a very fast action and when it is extended the action will get even faster. Plus when you extend a two piece blank you move the ferrule closer to the tip into the area of the blank where the strain is higher. The ferrule is the weakest part of most blanks due to a phenomena called stress concentration. The stress tends to be concentrated a few inches in front of the ferrule. If you are going to extend a blank I would stick with one piece blanks. I particularly like the Rainshadow Popping blanks that are extended for Steelhead. Have you seen the IP963 and IP964 that I built for your buddy Silas? I think that he really like them.

Don't think he was lookin to extend the HS1021 Harry, i think he was just wanting a comparison between the loomis and Rainshadow!!! There some bad a$$ bass blanks that can be extended into some pretty sweet steely drift rods!!!

CastawayChris,
Yes, I understand what he was asking but there are no 9' hot shot blanks that I am aware of.

ifish365,
The Loomis and the Rainshadow 1021s are very similar in action but in my judgment the Rainshadow are much better value blanks. They are significantly less expensive, straighter, and generally constructed of similar materials.
I have only had a couple of the new mixed modulus XST blanks but from what I have seen so far I would agree with Karry. They really are beautiful blanks and I think that the higher modulus in the butt section and intermediate modulus in the tip section makes a heck of a lot of sense. Lamiglas is also using this technology but I do not think that Loomis is, at least if they are I am not aware of it.

harry, are you getting any of the new blanks? i am interested in an 8'6" 8-17. also, i have a 9'6" lami cert pro in 4-8, i love that rod but i blew up two of them, if you tie spinning rods i would be interested in one of those too,,, i know you are very busy with rods, just thought i would run it by ya..... by the way, i saw you at the little river a couple of days ago, i was gonna go talk to ya, then you were gone, i will see ya soon i'm sure.

ifish365
If you mean the new XST blanks, yes and I like them a lot.
If you have a broken Lamiglas blank if you can get it to me I am sure that I can get a new tip for it or whatever is broken or you can just send it in yourself. Lamiglas are really good people to deal with on broken rods. I would think that 4-8lb. test is a little light though. What are you using it for, bobber and jig fishing?
This time of year I am pretty backed up partially because everyone wants rods during the fishing season and partially because I have been doing a lot of fishing myself. Come by my place at the coast and we can talk about what you need.

actually i drift fish with it. my drift fishing has become a bit different than most peoples, but it has really been working for me. maybe a 6-10 would be better, but i need the light rod in that length. i fish 8 lb main and 10 lb leader. i never have trouble controlling fish with it, in the right hands, a spinning outfit is very effective. i have caught alot of steelhead and quite a few springers on 4 lb line with my loomis 11' 6" noodle rod, i love spinning gear for steelhead. i prefer casting gear in very small streams or very high water only..... well i hope you are having a better fall than me and i hope to talk to you soon.

I'm a Rainshadow convert. With 400 and some models it must be a real pain to personally test all of them.
Guess someone has to do it. Lucky [**whoops**].
Oh, and I'm glad I could show you how not to catch fish so that you could figure out how to get it done on the clearwater!

Beauty work on the rod.

That's a split grip rear handle. Saves on expensive cork, as well as weight, and just looks cool.

Alaskan is correct!!

There seems to be a performance benefit with this handle configuration also. Maybe we can get the new owner to chime in on this.
