I'm a rookie but interested in building a rod for the first time. I would like to build a rod for float fishing for steelhead. Probably around 10 1/2 to 11 1/2 feet. Any suggestions on a good blank to start out with ?

Patto , I have a blank available as well . Check out my website www.wyldedge.com . If you click on the Wyld Edge Rods link it will take you to our main page for rods , you can learn about our blanks there and then if you use the salmon and steelhead rod link within that page , you can view the specs on our rods which will include basic blank specs. We have a 10 1/2 foot float rod that is pretty sweet , we specially designed it for maximum line control , it has the good strong backbone of a steelhead spinning rod but has a fly rod like flex in just the tip section in order to make it easier to mend your line on top of the water. If you are interested you can email me and I will get the tip and butt diameters for you as well , and we can work out a good price for you .

Thanks for the replies. And yes, I would be interested in taking a rodbuilding class and have been searching the web for anything local or even a club or something to hook up with. ( No pun intended). I am a Canadian living in Ontario and so far havent found a good local contact... I see alot of you guys are on the west coast and thats a bit of a commute..lol But I'm fired up about this and appreciate all the pointers...
Thanks again !!
