I'm thinking of making a trip to a game preserve to start my pup now that she's just over 6 months. The main reason for it is to have more control over the situation. A plus is the dog will learn what the heck she's out there for sooner if there are actually birds. I don't expect to have a problem with her wanting to point, and I'm not worried about her being really steady right now.
Any recommendations for somewhere with pheasant, chukar, or quail? NOTE: She's out of pretty hard running parents, so it needs to be somewhere with somewhat open spaces. I think that means Eastern WA from about Ellensburg on.
I'd be willing to meet up with someone who wants to give their dog some bird work because I doubt I need 5 - 7 birds the first time out! Splitting the cost would work well.

Thanks a bunch Doc. Benny, I have a Brittany.
The breeding is below. Probably more than you want to know. Sorry, I don't have a recent photo of her. I'll post it when I do.
Sire is DC/AFC Bourbon XIII. Dam is Chikamin's-Sunnyvale Melody JH. Boubon was Purina All-Age Dog of the year 2005. He was runner-up in the All-Age Nationals year before last and won the Chicken Classic two years running. He is a very handsome Brittany as well. Bourbon is out of FC/AFC Masked Shoshoni Warchief and FC/AFC Candy's Lucky Penny. FC/AFC Masked Shoshoni Warchief is out of NGDC/DC/AFC Magnum's Masked Man and Ch Shoshoni Washakie. FC/AFC Candy's Lucky Penny is out of NAFC/DC/AFC Renegade's Kansas Kid HOF and NAFC/DC/AFC Lobo's Cotton Candy.
Melody was professionally campaigned in the field and was pointed under Paul Doiron. Melody is a bird finding babe. The owner and boys took her up to the Highline in Montana last hunting season and shot a mess of Huns and Sharptails over her stylish stone cold broke point. Melody is out of FC Chikamin's Mr. Walker and Sunnyvale Kismet. I believe Sunnyvale Kismet was recently finished in the Field. FC Chikamin's Mr. Walker is out of NFC/FC/AFC Hi Proof Rum Runner HOF and DC Chikamin's Chiklet. Sunnvale Kismet is out of FC Noble Rocket and DC French's Bedroom Attire.

Jeff, do you know anyone who's been there? Other places are listed at this site.

No I don't know anyone who has been there. It's relatively close for a dryside place and I think is a little larger than most places. There's also Cooke Canyon in Eburg, I have driven by it, it's pretty much flat terrain with sage/grass for cover.

I have a brittany too. I wouldn't mind getting him into some birds. His pedigree isn't as good as your dog but it's decent enough.
Let me know if you want to hook up. Haven't really hunted him much because I mosty hunted ducks and geese last year. I know how to do the lab training but with the pointer's I'm a novice so if you want to show me some stuff......

Reecer Creek is sagebrush / rolling hills...he has a great line of pointing labs. Cooke Canyon is more like regular pheasant/quail habitat must be a NRA member if I remember right. Or of course you could buy your own birds and put them out on my place, it is a serious offer and the price is right.

Cooke canyon has closed its doors and the property sold. The new guys in town that opened up are Ellensburg gamebird ranch. If you guys just want to get your dogs out on some birds I might be able to hook you up with some pigeons and just go to some public ground

I have been catching and selling them to a local guy that trains labs. I havent had the time to do it lately but if someone wanted a few I could throw the traps out. I usually sell em for $3.50-4.00/ bird depending on quantity, he has bought hundreds from me

Right on I may know a trainer in the area that might want to buy some from you. I'm headed over there this weekend and I'll get back to you next week. Thanks.
