Electronic decoys?
      #265122 - 10/30/06 06:45 AM

I read a post on the DU board months ago that claimed WDFG was going to review their stance on electronic decoy use for waterfowl hunting. It's obvious nothing has changed, just wondering if the issue ever came up for discussion? Thanks, Bill

I personally think they should be outlawed across the US. Just like live decoys, they are too effective. Any dumba$$ can kill limits of ducks over them, even while calling very poorly. I hunt public water on the middle Snake, with plenty of competition. I have witnessed flocks working my decoys (circling many times), pull off and fly striaght in and land when the group 1/2 mile away turns on their "Motoducks". I honestly believe they push the boundaries of fair chase. It's like they hypnotize the ducks. I'll never use them.

Sorry about the rant.

I had one of those decoys that swam around in a circle. Didn't work for sh1t.

I agree that they probably should be outlawed, in that they provide an unfair advantage. What about wind powered though? I mean it is the same function it just doesn't work all the time. Of course when it is windy, then you don't need it because the hunting is usually good anyways.

I'm just talking about the motorized winged duck decoys. I've seent the ones that swim around in circles and tangle up all the other decoy lines, but never seen them work well.

Hell, I just carry some pebbles in my pocket, and flip them into the spread when the water is dead calm to provide some movement. What ever happend to tradition ?

Yeah, we hunt from a boat and just wiggle to make ripples. That seems to work okay. The best for us is when we can set the dekes in a tidal or river affected channel so it looks like they are swimming.
