the one I am thinking of is inserted into the end of the fly line and its a metal piece with a swivel eye so you can tie your leader to it.

Insert the barbed shank into your fly line and it locks firmly into the core. Now tie your leader to the eyelet. It’s that simple and no bulky knots.
NO knot leader eyelets is the name

I'm a tad interested on why the 'search?' As Bob/et. al. says above, loops/nail knots/etc., is/are a far better way to do the connection.

Good question Fred...I have an idea that would use something like these but not for connecting lines.

These have LOTS of other uses. The guys in the metal shop used to make a big one, with a big metal circle attached to the ring.
It was called a "bull cinch"!
You stick the pointed end up the bull's fanny, then put the ring on a fence post.
Keeps 'em still and standing there every time!

I should bloody well think it would!!!!!!!!!!!
Another connector I've seen, all-be-it a long time ago, was a small plastic 'bit' that you insert the end of the fly line in one piece and put a small knot on the end. The other 'bit' did the same for the leader butt section. Then "A" clipped into "B."

I'd agree here with Hal, "KISS system" all-be-it a drop of 'super glue' can add (but not much) to the party. Fred
